When to replace the timing belt on a 2002 audi a4 1.8T

At 80k service, dealer said that timing belt should be replaced fairly soon. 1) is this true 2) expected cost and 3) should I find some other shop with better rates that still has experience with audis?

thanks.

Audi 4 cylinder engines must have timing belt replaced as soon as 75,00 miles but no later than 105,000 miles. When doing job properly the mechanics should be replacing belt, tensioners, rollers, waterpump, thermostat and gasket. Average price would be around $900-$1200 US dollars.

From my experience all Audi timing belts are reccommended to be replaced after a maximum of 5years regardless of mileage. But many will cover the mileage limit first: 4 cylinder diesels 60,000. 6 cylinder diesels 80,000. 4 cylinder petrols can range from 80,000 - 115,000. 6 cylinder petrol 80,000. 8 cylinder petrols are chain driven and have no replacement interval.
These may sound high, but I regularly replaced belts at these mileages. Id reccommend replacing tensioners, rollers and dampers where applied. In my memory I have not come across a failed timing belt (other than ones caused by another failure) at these intervals.
Labour rates will vary greatly, especially here in England. Most A4s will be 2.5 - 3.0 hours of work, 3.0 petrols, when done correctly, may require more hours of labour charge.
Shop around, go by reccommendations.

Hi!
Fairly soon? youv'e gone well past it is normally 40,000 or 2 years I presume you are talking miles?
I don't blame you looking for alternative repairers and not knowing where you are situated can't recommend any.
However when searching make many enquiries and try to see the workshop, don't pay up front and ask for a warranted repair.
Good Luck!

I want replacing timing belt

First, why do you want to replace? Normally this is recommended every 10 years or 80k miles (US). It's not really possible to look at a belt and determine if it's worn or not. The procedure requires removal of the front radiator and carrier (part the headlight attach to) as well as special tool to lock the cam wheels in place. It is not a process for the average mechanic because of the potential for engine damage if done incorrectly. Cost at most independent shops (not dealer) is between 800 and 1200 dollars. My 01 A8L has 55k miles, but it probably the original belt so I will have replaced soon. Good luck.

I have a 2005 Audi A6 with @ 100,000 miles on it. My dealer is recommending that I replace the timimg belt and the quote for the job is $1500 to $2000 which will include a new water pump. There is...

On these vehicles, the timing belt is recommended at 90K!! I recommend replacing the T-belt and water pump at the same time. The water pump is timing belt driven, and if it fails, you would be paying for another Timing belt service!! YOU WILL NOT experience drive-ability issues because the belt is aged or has not been serviced at its recommended intervals. Instead, if the belt fails, your engine will fail, and will require replacement or rebuilt ($3500+ job). Find a less expensive reliable shop thats experienced in EURO vehicles, and stay away from the dealer!!

If im getting the radiator leak fixed on audi a4 is it worth getting the timing belt done at the same time if needed?

If the radiator is being replaced, yes, it may be a good idea to do the timing belt and water pump as well as the thermostat at the same time. If your car is in the area of 80K miles, yes, for sure.

Once the radiator is removed it is much easier to do the timing belt so this will save you some labor costs.

2000 VW 2.0 Beetle - Manual say not to replace timing belt?

General rule on most cars with a timing belt is change somewhere between 80K and 120K. On some cars, failure of timing belt will destory the engine.

If car is only worth $2500, and labor (parts are cheap on this usually) is $1000, if you can't do it yourself, need to decide if you risk it.

Are you willing to throw away the car when the timing belt breaks? Or spend the $1000, and have some other failure that renders the car useless 5000 miles later?

This is really a financial decision you have to make. If engine blows, you may be able to get $500 for it from junkyard, and you still have your $1000 saved from not changing the timing belt.

I have an 2004 audi a4 63500 miles when does timing belt need changing or how can I tell if it was done recently

The timing belt interval used to be 120k, but after numerous timing belt breaks and a class action lawsuit against VAG, Adui has changed the interval to 80k..However, i have seen them break even at 70k miles. Unless you see paperwork that it has been done, just plan on replacement before 70k. Better safe than sorry, if it breaks it costs thousands!

Milage timing belt needs replacing

Depends on which engine you have, but generally 60-70k is recommended. Audi at one time said 80k but most of us hold that to be too long an interval to risk on an engine as expensive as these are.

When to change the timming belt for kia sedona 2002

The dealer recommends the timing belt be replaced at 60,000 miles if it is a rubber timing belt. Newer Sedona models have a metal chain timing belt that don't need to be replaced so soon.
