Remove the cylinder bench test to see if it turns un obstructed, if so check orientation of cam on cylinder and also check if ignition switch will allow you to turn using screwdriver Do not operate car using screw driver steering can and will lock up on you.
also try a different key. While you bench test cylinder you can clean and lube it using lube sold specifically for locks do not use just any oil it will trap dirt

1997 toyota camry ignition key will not turn to acc to remove

Oohh, a catch 22 problem. I had success once by asking a locksmith to cut a key with a little extra metal on the profile, just a bit. I then wiggled and jiggled the key while trying to turn it, and it reluctantly went to ACC. I then ripped out the lock cylinder quick as I could.

You may have to call in an auto locksmith, who will have a skelton key, a master.

Key wont turn in the ignition

1997 Toyota Camry Key Wont turn, Ignition Lock problem -1997 toyota camry FIXED!!! I see a lot of Douches with a capital D trying to charge people to fix this extremely common issue with this Camry ignition cylinder. OK pull the plastic guard off encasing the steering column. Get a phillips head screwdriver and remove the 2 screws holding the little off-white connector at the rear of the module(it has the wires to the ignition running to it). Get a pair of pliers or a small crescent wrench and while trying to turn the key use the wrench to turn the little rod sticking out of the back of the module. Make sure your turning it WITH the direction the key is trying to turn it. It should immediate be freed. Voila IT WORKS! AND THATS WHY PEOPLE DONT TRUST MECHANICS! HOW CAN YOU CHARGE SOMEONE FOR THAT INFO?

Key will not turn past acc, will unlock steering wheel but won't turn to start.

Depending on the model car it sounds like the cylinder lock is bad, something broke apart inside the lock but i have seen the ignition switch also break apart, you will need to remove the cylinder and see if its the cylinder or the switch itself, good day.

Key wont move ignition switch past ACC to start position. Purchased new key and still doesn't work.

The actual ignition switch, the electrical switch which the key cylinder turns, is probably bad. It is made of plastic and does eventually wear out. Have that part checked out.

How do you replace the ignition cylinder on a 1997 toyota 4 runner

Here's what you need:
1) Drill
2) 5/32′ cobalt drill bit (use cobalt, it's for drilling hard metals and is necessary)
3) 10mm socket wrench
Here's what you do:
1) Remove panel underneath steering column (4 X 10mm bolts)
2) Remove plastic shield covering ignition (should just snap out)
3) On the underside of the ignition assembly, you'll see a small hole (~1/4′) about 2 inches back from where the key goes. Using the 5/32′ drill bit, drill up into the hole, trying to center the drill bit on the pin which is inside the hole. You can normally push this retaining pin in if the ignition is turned to the first position and slide the cylinder out.
4) When the pin is drilled out completely, the lock cylinder should be easy to pop out with a small flat head screwdriver pried just underneath where the key goes on the front of the ignition.
5) The new cylinder should slide right in (with the key inserted and turned to the first position - ACC)
Heres what it cost:
1) Ignition lock cylinder assembly from Toyota dealer ~ $115
2) 5/32′ cobalt drill bit ~$4

Ignition key cylinder

You have to have the ignition lock exposed, take the covers off above and below the lock body that holds the cylinder.
Insert the key fully into the keyway, and turn it to ACC. On the ignition lock body, press on the "stop pin", that pokes out of the lack body, above where the cylinder is housed. Press on the "stop-pin", and extract the cylinder. If the key can not be turn ed to ACC, the cylinder will not come out.
Thanks for choosing FixYa. Please let me know if this solves your problem.
