2001 Volvo C70 died after oil spewing from dipstick tube..

I was in a small fender bender on the front left side of my '02 Volvo C70 yesterday, no real damage on the exterior.. a broken blinker and headlight and minor scratches/dent.. nothing crazy. But, a few hours later I was driving on the highway and heard a very faint ticking noise.. if I took my foot off the gas, the noise stopped. I tried to get off the highway to have a look at a gas station, but the car started slowing down on the off-ramp.. all the lights turned on and the car just stopped. dead. :( When we looked under the hood, apparently the end of the dipstick had broken off???! and oil was spewing EVERYWHERE. It was all over the place. It was smoking like crazy. I haven't had it looked at yet, but I know things aren't looking good. I've heard it is possible the engine might have seized, the timing belt could have gone.. I'm not sure. I'm wondering if anyone has a glimpse of hope for me that it might not be completely dead. I heard something about the possibility of it shutting down as a fail safe.. ? What are my odds? ALSO - What are the chances that the broken dipstick could be a result of me being hit a few hours earlier? I'm praying insurance might be able to help me out with this one.... Any words of wisdom or thoughts, comments, concerns would be appreciated. Thanks a bunch!

If the oil pressure light did not come on while you were driving, it might be ok. Try replacing the dip stick and check the oil level. Make sure to remove all the pieces of the broken dipstick. While driving at highway speed, I hope it did not blow all of the oil out of the broken dipstick. The smoking occurred when spewed oil came in contact with hot exhaust manifold.

SOURCE: 2001 Volvo S60 2.4T starting problem

This car won't start unless the gear is in the P position. Some times the sensor that tells the computer that the gear is in the P position doesn't make a good contact and the car won't start. Move the gear backwards and forwards until it makes a good contact and the car will start again.

Where is the volvo c70 crankshaft position sensor

Try the front of back of the crankshaft. I think they only put them on the front because of the transmisson. Then possibility of oil contamining it if its has a TC but if you have a timing belt try under that housing.
