The crack starts, I believe , on the side of the window goes out horizontally about 3 inches then turns upwards for about 4 inches. My insurance says it is too big to repair and needs to be replaced. It was just a spontaneous crack...no rock or collision. Will this be covered under a warranty? Do I take it to the dealership?

It should be replaced. The windshield actually will provide protection in a roll over crash, keeping the roof from caving in and crushing occupants. So you want it to be crack free for the strength to be there to protect you. The only repairs that can be made are much smaller than what you describe, and in hot and cold weather the glass will continue to expand and contract, and crack further.
