High oil pressure

05 Avalanche, 5.3 liter, 85K miles. I have an orange engine symbol in the dash and when I take off from an itersection or just rev the engine in the driveway, as the rpm go up so does the oil pressure. at about 2500-3000 rpm the oil pressure will go up to about 60-70 lbs. The pressure usuall sat about 40 lbs. What's wrong?

This is a normal occurrence. The oil pressure is directly correlated to engine RPM. your check engine light is related to something else.

If my 2004 chevy silverado oil pressure gage stays at 80 psi could this hurt the engine

I would want to know what the actual oil pressure is. The sending unit or the gauge on the dash could have failed.
There is a pressure relief valve to prevent oil pressure from going too high, but staying at 80psi would not be good for a long time.

Oil pump 2004 chevrolet avalanche

Can only help by putting in a new oil pump as well. I would say remove the heads and check where the coolant is coming from. Bad head or crack in a cylinder wall.

I have a 2007 chevrolet avalanche LT and everytime im driving it after a couple kms it will say low oil pressure turn off engine????

Hello: What weight oil is in the engine? How many miles since last oil change? How many miles on truck? The first thing you could do is replace the oil pressure sensor. You will have to remove the intake manifold to gain access to the oil pressure sensor. If the engine is not knocking or there isn't any valve train noise then it could be the oil pressure sensor when this message is displayed.

2002 F150 V-8 with 85k miles. I need to know the best oil type and weight for servicing this used vehicle?

Hi,
Pennzoil, 5-30.
I do not work for Pennzoil.( smile)
85k is reasonably low miles for the year of your Ford.

Oil preser lowers at lights

Hi there,

That is natural. The oil pressure rises in response to engine rpm's.

Idling at a light? Low oil pressure

55 mph on the highway? Higher oil pressure

Good job keeping an eye on it. And remember to change your oil every 3,000 miles.

Best regards

Wrench light is on and odometer shows negative mileage

The negative number means the car should have had it's oil changed that many miles ago. Oil life starts at 100% for new oil & counts down every 10%. At 15% the display will always show, which means it's near time to change the oil.

usersteve83, your oil may have been changed but the timer not reset. Reset the timer as shown...
1. Turn ignition to the "ON" position. (do not start engine)
2. Press SEL/RESET repeatedly until the oil life indicator is displayed.
3. Press & hold the SEL/RESET for about 10 seconds until it blinks then let go of the button.
4. Press the SEL/RESET again for about 5 seconds or until the oil life indicator resets to 100%.

Wrench = Maintenance Minder: Symbol letter & number...
Symbol A - Relace engine oil.
Symbol B - Replace engine oil & filter, Inspect front & rear brakes, Check parking brake adjustment, Visually inpest the tie rods, suspension components, driveshaft boots, brake hoses & line (including ABS), all fluid levels & their conditions, exhaust system, fuel lines & connections.
Symbol 1 - Rotate tires.
Symbol 2 - Replace air cleaner element (dusty conditions every 15K miles) & replace dust & pollen filter (behind glovebox) every 15K miles if mainly dusty or city driving.
Symbol 3 - Replace transmission fluid.
Symbol 4 - Replace spark plugs.
Symbol 5 - Replace engine coolant.

All above are taken from the 2006 Civic EX owner's manual.
