2000 saturn brake lights not working

MY 2000 Saturn LS2 (i think its ls2, it has a v6 engine), has th service light with the wrench on and the brake lights are not working. No fuses are blown out and all bulbs are working fine. I took it too the mechanic yesterday and the guy said I have a short and need to replace the whole taillight assembly on each side, which will be about $130 a side. Could the problem be something else like the brake switch? Also, where could I get a tail light assembly? Is it easly to install myself?

None of the brake lights work , the center high mount lights too ! I can't believe both tail lamp assembly's going bad at the same time ! Wrench light on means codes are stored in the BCM , did your Mechanic check codes .

SOURCE: why do my 2000 saturn ls2 keep back fireing

Hello
The engine and automatic transmission in this vehicles drive train are fully electronically controlled by a computer called the PCM (Power Train Control Module). Whenever a problem like this occurs the computer stores a record of the problem (there are of course some exceptions to this, like the fuel pump, engine coolant temperature sensor and MAF sensor for instance) in the form of a fault code in its memory, to read these fault codes you must have the systems memory scanned with a special tool. Once the fault code(s) are read you then must perform the appropriate diagnostic testing to find and resolve the problem(s) DO NOT REPLACE ANY PARTS UNTIL A TRAINED TECHNICAIN HAS DIAGNOSED THE PROBLEM TO AVOID SPENDING YOUR HARD EARNED MONEY ON PARTS THAT MAY NOT CORRECT THE PROBLEM

Service engine light stays on 2000 LS2 V6

The service engine light means that there is a problem of some sort with your car, usually it's not something that would prevent you from driving the car but you do need to take it to a repair shop and have it checked. Also you can go to a local Autozone parts store and they will check the car and tell you what the problem is and what it would take to fix it, and the best part, Autozone won't charge you for this service.

Crawl underneath and look for the speedometer cable and ensure it is securely fastened. Also is you engine service light on? If it is most autozones will hook up and tell you if the speed sensors needs replacement.
