took it to a shop they put a sensor in my distibutor still no spark so they took it out. they said they were gettin a wierd response from the brain so they pt a new on in and that didnt fix it. They said its probably some elatic greminlin somewhere and to take it to a dealership because there equipment is more sophisticated. aany ideas please help cant afford to pay a lot if i can fix myself.

yah so my bubby talk me into takin it into a different shop and i had to take the drive shaft of to use the tow dolly. the shop found a fuse that ties in to the brain and called me to come get it then they called and said the fuse popped again and they needed more time. then they called and said to come get it but they were gonna put my driveshaft back in witch we discussed them not doing.what happened is some one tryied to move it and my bungies broke (i know because the only found 1 and a half of the bungies i had holding up the shaft) but that found the problem. the plastic clip holdin up my wiring harness broke causeingthe wires to rub on the driveshaft exposing them and poping that fuse. i forgot what the called it but it ties into the brain so it wasnt one in the kick panel or the main engine compartment.

I have a 98 and it has a distributor but it could be a fuel issue more than a spark if you have a fuel pressure gauge and check it.should be above 30 psi to me it sounds like a fuel pump thats bad

check the wiring in the engine compartment make sure there is no chaffed or open connections that could short out.true a dealership does have better equipment to find the problem but i work for a dealership and sometimes the equipment doesnt find the problem.if your still not gettin spark check all connections and make sure every thing is plugged in basically it sounds like a wiring problem.other than that you may have to take it to a dealership

1997 Jeep Grand Cherokee keeps cutting off and won't start some times

I would start by going to an auto parts store and having them scan the computer for codes, even if the engine light is not on. i have heard about auto part stores saying they can not scan if light is not on. i am not sure if it is the scan tool they use or what but sometimes there could be a pending code where the computer is waiting to see the problem again before turning light on. if this is the case then ask them to scan it anyway or go to a shop and ask them to do it. the reason for this is that these trucks have crank sensor problems.

the next time is dies check for spark, remove a sparkplug wire and place a screw driver into the boot of the wire and place it near a ground, a metal surface and then have someone crank the engine and see if there is spark. if there is no spark or you got a code of the crank sensor then i would replace the crank sensor, but if you have good spark and truck will not start then try spraying starting fluid into throttle body and see if it starts and dies out if it does then fuel pump problem.

If you have a fuel pressure gauge then hook that up and crank engine and see if you have fuel pressure and how much.

I will say that this does sound like a bad crank sensor, it dies and then wont start for a while ...

98' Jeep Grand Cherokee V8

sounds like a bad pump, filter or both. Do some testing before replacing though, a bad crankshaft sensor can do pretty much the same thing! Parts are not cheap...testing is very important!!!
