2004 dodge 1500 slt engine making weird sounds

My truck is a 2004 dodge 1500 slt with 55 000 k on it. but just lately there has been a really weird sound coming from the engine and i cant figure out what it is. its like a almost grinding sound of metal or like something is loose.

    thanks so much i did try it and found one was pretty loose so i tightened it up and the sound is pretty well gone. but u can still hear a faint sound coming from it but it is much better than before

That is a pretty vague problem and hard to diagnose. try removing the serpentine belt and check all your pulleys by hand. My first thought was the tensioner pulley that provides tension for the belt..
