Bmw code P1189

Recently had a check engine light come one. Autozone narrowed it down to a P1189 code but they could not tell me what it meant. I have researched all over the internet and have come to the Fuel Control Bank 2 Sensor 1. Is that difficult to fix myself or do I need to take it to a mechanic? I am fairly handy if I have directions, and I don't have the money, or the desire, to visit the BMW dealership. Any help is appreciative, thanks!

The check engine light comes on when there's a definitive problem, so there will be a code. AutoZone should be able to read the codes for free and that will tell you what the problem is.

Ask when you get the codes and the problem can be narrowed down.

I have nissa pathfinder 98 lose powerva check engine light flasting

you need to get the codes read from the computer. those will help to narrow it down. you can buy any obd2 meter and the just plug it in to t.he port by the brake pedal and it will read the codes and tell you. the codes will help narrow down if this is a fuel, electrical, air or sensor problem as loosing power can be from multiple causes. Any shop can read the codes and give you an estimate. even some part places like autozone or pepboys do itbfor free.

I have a2001 ford tarus with 199,000 mies just had a tune up done plugs and wires, fuel filter. Just recently the engine started to run rough and the check engine light started flashing when I drive.

If the check engine light is on then I would take it to your local autozone they can hook it up to a scan tool free of charge that will tell you what codes are being thrown. Once you have those it will narrow down the problems greatly.
thank you,

Causes for "Check engine" warning ligth activation

The check engine light comes on and stays on when a problem is detected by the self diagnosis system of your vehicle. Generally, the problem is in the emissions or something that is affecting the effectiveness of the emissions, but other causes can trigger the light to come on, too. To determine the cause, the vehicle will need to be taken to AutoZone or a shop that has an OBD2 scanner, or for 1995 and earlier models, an OBD1 scanner, While a scanner will not give you the magic answer, it will give you a code that narrows down the problem area.

A flashing check engine light is an indication of a severe misfire or problem that is likely to harm your engine. Immediate diagnosis and service is needed.

Some specific causes for the light to be on are:

Gas cap left off, not tightened, not installed correctly, or needs to be replaced

02 sensor

Engine misfire - error might clear itself after 3 complete warm-up cycles; not restarts, but warm-ups

At start up for a bulb check - Should not stay on

Problem in the emission system, including clogged exhaust or the catalytic converter not functioning properly

Dirty/clogged air filter

Dirty MAF sensor

There are pages and pages of items that can cause a check engine light to come on. Having it checked with a scan tool will narrow down the problem area.

Not all systems are able to be read by your local auto parts store. For '95 and earlier cars, OBD I is used and can NOT be read by AutoZone or Advanced Auto. A simple paper clip can be used to jump 2 ports on the diagnostic port and have the Engine light flash a certain sequence. This will then tell you the code to refer to for troubleshooting.

The computer has detected a malfunction and set a code. Have it checked for codes with a scan tool.
There are pages and pages of things that can cause a check engine light. You need to have it checked with a scantool. Then the code can be diagnosed and repaired.

Need to know what p1188 is to diy er

SAE Code P1188 DTC Code 17596 Description Linear 02 Sensor / Compensator Resistor Short to ground SAE Code P1189 DTC Code 17597 Description Linear 02 Sensor / Compensator Resistor Short to B+ SAE Code P0170 DTC Code 16554 Description Fuel Trim, Bank1 Malfunction

Basically you need a new oxygen sensor, The fuel trim code is from the computer trying to adjust the fuel/Air mixture to compensate for the bad signal from the sensor. Just change the one closer to the engine, the one behind the Catalytic converter will thow a different code when it fails.
