Brake Lights Won't Work While Lights Are On

I have a 1997 Nissan Sentra and when I turn the lights on the brake lights will not work. The one in the middle of the trunk work but not the two taillights. The dash lights also don't come on. Please help, thanks!

Yes we have replaced the fuses and the bulbs. Not sure about the brake light switch. We will check that out later tonight. Thanks for your suggestions.

Turn on the hazard switch to check if the bulbs light up. If they do, the problem is probably with the headlight switch itself.

1997 Nissan sentra. No lights brake/tail/turn signals on the rear section of vehicle. All front lighting works. What could cause this? Wiring diagram would help

1st check the fuse box. The corresponding fuse for that set of lights could be blown. If so, replace it with one of the same voltage.

If its not blown, next check all the light bulbs and terminals to their sockets. (With the light swithed off...checking solder or crimp connectors for breaks or corrosion)

If these are good, it might be a short in the wires to the lights. That is best fixed by a mechanic.

My brake lights won't come on but all lights work

check the brake switch under the dash by the brake pedal. More than likely defective.

1997 nissan pathfinder le 3.3l - Brake lights won't turn off - replaced stop switch and relay combo already. any ideas?

The brake switch will stop all current to the brake lights. As soon as the brake pedal moves just off of its fully up position, the switch makes contact and passes current on to the brake lights. You can operate it by hand to check if everything is right. izzit adjustable? The switch is the last thing in the path to the brake bulbs, so it has to work right, right off the brake pedal!

Brake Lights Don't Work

You most likely have a defective/dirty brake light switch. Have a mechanic check the switch.

My 1997 rodeo brake lights won't work

Have you replace or tested the brake light switch at the brake pedal arm under the dash? If not do so, it is likley the problem.

Brake light stays on

the switch for your brake lights is located near your brake pedal,it is usually a spring loaded switch that comes out when the pedal is pushed & the pedal pushes it back in when it is released, this switch may have come loose & is active all the time, you need to make sure that it is pushed hard up against the brake pedal & tighten the adjusting screws to lock it in position, check that your stop lights come on when the brake pedal is pushed in....hope this helps....cheers

Nissan sentra 1400gx

Hey, i checked out the "PLATE" theory, i couldnt find anything in the nissan Database (sorry), if the parking lights work on the car, but not the BRAKE lights, it could be caused by the brake switch, Its located under the brake pedal, its a simple concept... when you hit the brake, the pedal hits a button to trigger the brake lights, its fairly common for these to go out, however, this wouldnt cause the dash lights to not work, you might try looking for a short in your wiring, Best of luck!
