CAr Stalls engine temperature warning light turns on

I have a 2000 grand marquis. It stall once it reaches normal operating temp and put in drive and increse speed. The temperature warning light turns on just before the car stalls. I have replaced both coolant temperature sensors but the problem still persists. Need help diagnosing. Thermostat? PCM?

    Received error P1740 the temperature warning light still turns on and immediately off the Overdrive light does the same the the check engine light turns on and the car stall - most of the time when it is in drive.



    I was told it may be a transmission control sensor?

Next step is thermostat

    What you want to look at now would be. Catalytic converter being plugged this could cause the car to overheat. But unlikely in your case unless the car has power issues even before it overheats.

    Is the coolant system bled out so there are no air bubbles etc.

  • Insufficient, erratic, or no heat
  • Low engine coolant level.
  • Engine overheating.
  • Plugged or partially plugged heater core (18476).
  • Temperature blend door binding/stuck.
  • Temperature blend door actuator (19E616).
  • Incorrect heater control valve (18495) operation.
  • Go To Pinpoint Test I .

Are the heater hose's going through the fire wall hot ?
I2 CHECK FOR HOT WATER TO THE HEATER CORE INLET HOSE WARNING: The heater core inlet hose will become too hot to handle and may cause serious burns if the system is working correctly. Allow the engine to reach normal operating temperature. Feel the heater core inlet hose.
  • Is the heater core inlet hose too hot to handle?
Yes GO to I4 .

No REFER to Section 303-03 to check cooling system function.

Stalls under load

hi,
if the temperature is normal, it means that 2 things can cause your engine to stall:
1- coolant temperature sensor
2- oxygen sensor

if the car is overheated it means that the piston rings are having a problem

I got a 1988 mercury grand marquis LS that just about stalls when you drive it cold and put it into park. Cold meaning the oil is cold not the weather.

it doesent mean the weather it works the same if the engine hasent been rann for awhile its not at operating temp try running it till it reaches normal temp if it does not stall its your cold oxigen sensor

have you check cooling fan/radiator fan is working at right temperature? Did you check coolant level?
