In answer to replacing the Boxster rear window; Yes, very simple; go to your nearest Mercedes dealership and buy any of their models. Your local junk yard may offer you some money for your Boxster, but I doubt it.

It sounds like it could be the plastic connecting bit that links the lock tumbler lever to the rod that operates the door lock mechanism, has broken or become disconnected. To check, you will need to remove the trim on the inside of the door, after removing any screws and the inside door lever and window winder.
Once you have the inside trim off and the plastic sheet, you will see an access hole for the door mechanism and the lock tumbler. It should be attached to the actuating rod by the aforementioned plastic bit. If plastic bit appears OK try re-attaching it or replacing it if broken. If the lever part of the lock tumbler which attaches to the rod is broken the lock will need replacing.

This is a common problem. Your alarm was on when the battery went dead. When the alarm activated, the hood/bonnet opening lever locks to prevent thieves from opening the hood in case the top is down. Some boxsters have a jumper post the pulls out near the fuse box. However, I do not think the 1997-1999s have this post.

Buy a male-to-male cigarette lighter adapter at the auto store. Connect between your car's cigarette lighter socket and the other car's cigarette lighter socket. Do not try to start the ignition or the any other electronics. You should not even need the key in the ignition. You should be able to pop the door locks with the remote and open the bonnet.

Is the cable broken? try to grab the cable with a pair of pliers and pull to see if this releases the bonnet (Hood) sorry im british

Well of course the top is in excellent condition.

The plastic fades and uv rays killed it. Porsche hasn't figured out how to sew glass in there so they make you buy the whole assembly.

U think you bought toyota or honda didn't you. wait till the window actuator fails.

Inner door panel off and adjustment is where glass/channel bolts to regulator to move glass backwards and forwards. To adjust top in and out 2 10mm bolts in bottom of door to adjust bottom of regulator

That problem appears to be in the top release. this is the thing at the top of the windshield that you release. Press the button inside of it to see if that may be the problem. it is the only thing that wouldn't let your windows go all the way up. The switch inside may have gone bad.

look at length of cable with top,then work out max distance it could be then look for it in that region allowing for the fact it could have dropped .
