if your hood latch is loose there should be two bolts that hold the latch in place tighten those then follow ed's suggestion if your hood latch is loose there should be two bolts that hold the latch in place tighten those then follow ed's suggestion
On either side of the radiator support, there are 2 black rubber knobs. Turning them anti-clockwise raises them, and stops the hood from being loose. Try that & let me know if that helps you hout. there is a safety latch in the lock that you have to pull sideways to get the bonnet open after you pull the cable
That stops the hood from opening at speed
the latch is adjustable ( mechanic can do it )
replace it if it shows signs or damage or wear
Check that the catch that the release cable pulls on is returning freely to catch on the cone shaped bolt head that holds the hood closed. Try spraying it with something like WD-40 and move the lever to free it.
Have a look at your fuel pump which is located in the fuel tank beneath the back seat. Also, replace the fuel filter located in the hood very close to the battery compartment.
Choke is round black device on side of carburetor near the top, when engine is cold take lid off air cleaner, see if flap is closed all the way.If not remove air cleaner and adjust choke by manufacturers instructions.Timing is not your problem,it has its own set of problems and symptoms
Stretched or frayed cable, or possible mechanism seized or broken. Try looking up under hood in latch area, as someone pulls cable lever inside, & watch what happens. You may see a piece getting pulled , and be able to get to it with a screwdriver to assist it in going further to open the latch. Then inspect cable close for conditions I mentioned above. You may be able to tighten up the slack (adjust) once the hood is up, otherwise a new cable may be necessary. If worse comes to worse, you may have to grab that slack in the cable with a pair of vise grips & give a little more pull to get it unlatched. Make sure you lube the mechanism under hood too.
