I went and got a oil change yesterday and the guy at jiffy lubs said my transmission fluid is bad and needs to be flushed. I went and checked it myself and it is a very dark brown. I did some research and from what i read everyone says not to flush to just put new fluid in and change the filter. They say that flushing can make more issues with the transmission. So now im confused. I got the car used so im not sure about previous maintenance on the car.I do get the oil changed every 5k. Should i get the flush or just change the fluid and filter and forget the flush. Its a mazda 3 2010. 54 thousand miles. Please help
Trans fluid is changed at mileage intervals, and near the end, it looks like you describe.
You want to do both: flush and filter. The filter and the pan hold the real contaminants, so those get changed and cleaned...but then you're left with a giant amount of fluids in the system. Torque converter, piping, cooler, piping...the amount is not insignificant.
So, you get a clean filter and pan cleaned and reinstalled, the next thing is the flush. The t-teck machine is my fav, what it does is has a ful reservoir of clean and new fluid, and an empty container.....They run the car, allow fluid to pump out, and new fluid to go in....This keeps up until the fluid coming out of the trans system is clean.
It really is the best way, I think. The lube shops are the place to get it done, as this job is leak prone, messy and generates lots of fluid to be disposed of.
Neither of these processes should be able to cause damage. Sometimes the trans pan leaks, so get it attended to...not a big deal.

Yep.They are trying to rip you off.Its not due untill after 20,000 miles. At the same time the auto trans filter should be done.Stick it up them.Hope this helps

The flush will help to remove and replace all the oil includeing the oil in the tork converter but it does not replace the filter screen.
I buy the filter kit. It comes with the new filter and trans pan gasket. Take the pan off (be careful its got 4 or 5 quarts of use oil behind it) let the oil drain out and take some paper towels and clean the inside of the pan.Remove the old filter, put in the new one. Put the pan back on with the new gasket and refill the trans oil with good quality oil. (Valvoline)
The tork converter may have a drain plug on it but most dont and you just leave that oil in.
