I have a 99 Volkswagen beetle the previous mechanic dropped a screw under my Hood after replacing my valve cover it blew my spark plugs my timing belt was torn and it damaged my tensioner pulley. My car would only crank now and not catch to the engine to fully start. The timing belt and spark plugs were replaced now we are waiting for The tensioner pulley to be delivered. Question is after the tensioner pulley is replaced will my car run?

the belt that turns the alternator is called the serpentine belt. this also usually runs your fan and is sometimes also called an "accessory belt"

If you look down at the belt area, you will see a pully toward the front of the car that looks like it's attached to an arm. That is the tensioner pully. The tensioner is spring loaded. If you look at the arm of the tensioner there should be a square hole in it to insert a socket wrench or a breaker bar/pull handle to use as a lever to remove the tension from the belt. If there is no hle, then use a wrench(possibly 15mm) on the bolt head of the pully itself as your lever. As you hold the tensioner out of the way, unloop the old belt. Pay attention to the routing, so you can reinstall the new one correctly. Then, you route the new one in and again use your lever to move the tensioner so you can get the belt over the last pully. I usually put it over the alternator last. Use a light to make sure the belt is fully on all 5 grooves of every single pulley before you start the car.

If your timing belt broke, then it is possible that the valves in your engine got bent, which won't allow the cylinders to pressurize the fuel/air mixture, and it will let all of the mix to flow freely into the intake/exhaust manifold. This can be checked with a pressure tester that is threaded into the spark plug opening. A mechanic should have one, or you can probably find one at an auto parts store.

only two things, either something got left unplugged or the wrong timing marks were used. what daigram did you use for the alignment of the marks? sometimes they do have different marks for other reasons. let me know.
