What do P0016 and P0017 codes mean on a 2010 Equinox?

I have these codes coming up and the service dept couldn't tell me what they meant when I was there...I am taking it in in a few days but I seriously thought they could tell me what they meant. In the meantime I am sticking close to home and not going far.

P0016 is the crankshaft position (CKP) to intake camshaft position correlation; P0017 is the exhaust camshaft position correlation.

P0016 sets when 'The ECM detects 8 of the last 10 cam sensor pulses occur during the incorrect crankshaft position."
P0017 sets when 'The ECM detects 25 out of the last 35 cam revolutions occur with 2 cam sensor pulses outside the CKP window."

Basically, you're getting pulses when they shouldn't happen, from both cam sensors, or the CKP is generating incorrect window info. Since the CKP is the common element, it's probably the culprit.

The cam position sensors are at the back of the head, one on each side corner. The CKP is under the oil filter housing, above the starter. To replace the CKP, you're supposed to remove the intake manifold and starter.

SOURCE: Just bought a 04 Trailblazer

If you bought this at a car dealer, you should take it back for them to fix it (hope you at least got a 30 day warranty). If you bought it privately, it's your problem now.
The P0606 code is relayed to the PCM (Powertrain Control Module), that's the computer. The fault is saying there is an internal memory problem with it. This may or may not be causing all the other fault codes, but it should be the first one to be fixed.
The P0014 & P0016 are related to the camshaft actuator solenoid and crankshaft position sensor.
P0125 is for coolant temperature being too low, P0128 is for coolant temperature not rising fast enough at start up, these could be a bad thermostat.
P0172 is for a rich fuel mixture detected.

SOURCE: fuel pump?

Scott,
I as well have a 2002 chev blazer 4x4 4.3L, and though I have not exerrienced your paticular problem, I have experienced Service Engine Light on, and generaly I have found it is one of your sensors.
You could have a bad sensor causing your rev problem. What I do is determine if the vehicle still runs as if the service engine light has not come on.
If it runs the same, in my experience it is not as crucial as if you have a performance issue, as you do with reving. If I was you I would try to get to your mech ASAP.
I am not aa mech but, I know our chev blazer very well, and how it should perform.
Hope this helps,
Chuck

Check engine light on my 2007 saturn aura xr. Codes read p0011, p0016, & p0017. Just where is the crankshaft position sensor located on the 3.6 engine?

a Honda Saturn. and zero post, i wonder why.
the Saturn (and honda) FSM both tell you how to diagnose all DTCS.
why not read that.
and btw, the codes never tell you what parts is bad but rather ,they only tell you which tests fails.
the tech will test the sensor and see that its good, (say) then finds the connector bad, saving $200 in useless parts.
or more.
RTM , READ the FSM, and read what the test does.
and get the freeze frame and see what is going on.

What does code P1707 Mean?

You mentioned Hyundai so I will assume that is the brand of car. Four digit codes are brand specific.
Code 1707 is for a problem with the brake switch. Depending on the year of the car, the brake switch circuit could be causing problems with the engine computer as well as the speedo.
Usually when the speedo acts up the problem is the speed sensor in the transmission, but you should have a code for that too.

I HAVE A P0016 PROBLEM ON MY TOYOTA CAMRY 2007 I ALLREADY REPLACE THE CAMSHAFT SENSOR AND THE CRAMSHAFT POCITION SENSOR AND I HAVE THE SAME ERROR CODE CAN SOME ONE HELP ME WITH THAT THANX.

This code is not specific to a Cam position sensor failure, sensor failure may set this code. Below is a TSB (technical service bulletin) regarding this code. Keep in mind when replacing cam or crank sensors, they may need recalibration which is done by the dealer. If your vehicle has less than 60k miles, it may be covered by Toyota's warranty. Here is the TSB link below, hopefully this helps: http://www.djmase.com/tsb/Camry2007/eg004t.pdf

I think your sensors are pattern parts and the readings /resistances are not the same as the original parts ,try some bosch units is my first suggestion ,
