Your clutch is not disengaging. If it a hydrolic clutch chk. the fluid in resavor, Or slave cyl. for the clutch is bad, Or it has got air in it and needs to be bleed. This is a clutch problem, nothing wrong with trans. If its a manual clutch linkage its an ajustment thing. My best guess if its hydrolic slave cyl. went bad, or resavor is out of fluid.

SOURCE: 1991 jeep wrangler clutch

U have what is called a hydraulic clutch, one of the hydraulic cylinders hs failed, there is a master and a slave cylinder. The most likely and most common cylinder to fail is the slave cylinder, this requires the transmission to be pulled out to replace it. the art is around $125.00, while the trans is out u might as well replace the clutch, the labor is about the same. Here is a picture of the part, let me know if u can see it.

SOURCE: 88 wrangler wont shift

Clutch pedals have a safety interlock switch that keeps a manual transmission vehicle from starting. It sounds like the pin on the bottom of the shifter in the trans is getting worn and needs to be replaced. You can remove the boot on the shifter and the cover on top of the trans and see the pin. It's a simple matter of getting the pin out and installing a new one. Just make sure everything lines up good on the install and everything is clean. Another thing that may be the culprit are the synchronizer plates could be worn nearlt out. To replace or fix this you will need the trans out of the vehicle and tear it down. Start with an inspection of the pin and the linkage as well, then if it doesn't work correctly then you may have to tear into it.

SOURCE: Jeep 1997 Wrangler. Gear shifting very hard

synchronizers are going bad a used trans would be cheaper than a rebuild due to the labor involved

SOURCE: Hard shifting 1st to 2nd gear. And 4th gear wants

trans needs a rebuild. the synchronizers are worn and sticking. It would be worth your time to drain the fluid and try some type of TRANS X or LUCAS for manual trans. Then test drive and see if it has loosened it up.

1995 Jeep Wrangler Auto Trans 1st to 2nd shift acts like it goes into neutral what could the problem be

When was the last time the transmission fluid and filter changed? I would have that serviced first. If it is an electronic transmission, the line pressure might also have to be reset.

I was driving to work this morning and was in 3rd gear, went to down shift at a stop sign and its stuck in 3rd gear. 1988 jeep wrangler. It has been grinding the gear for a few weeks now everytime I change...

The 3rd Gear Synchro is worn or damaged, which is why it grinds when you try to upshift or downshift into 3rd gear. When it goes out completely you will have a very hard time shifting into 3rd gear, since the Synchro lines up the gears to make shifts smooth and easy.

Hard shifting 1st to 2nd gear. And 4th gear wants to pop out have to hold in with shifter. 1991 Jeep Wrangler. Worse when cold.

Sounds like the trans needs to be rebuilt as it's been abused. The clutch may be dragging during shifts and not completly disingaging or a lasy driver does'nt pust the clutch in all the way. If the clutch isn't the problem the oil in the trans should be ATF and if someone put in 80-90 it'll do this but jumping out of high and the shifter isnt itting the floorboard as a bad trans mount or motor mount may let happen, The trans is damaged and a used unit is cheaper and quicker to get done. Rebuilding the trans with all the parts it may need cost more than your truck is worth

1991 jeep wrangler not shifting into gear could this be clutch

I would first bleed the tranny lines, if that doesnt work then your tranny is out and need to get it replaced. FYI with Jeep Wranglers, It is better to get a new transmission then to rebuild them
