Oil leak I have a Renault Megane Schenic 1998 RT Auto.I noticed that a rubber pipe on top of the gearbox was not connected (look like a breather pipe) The moment I connected this pipe the car developed a oil leak. The oil is coming from the engin and not the gearbox. Is there a connection between engin and the gearbox with this pipe? How can I fix this? Thanks Pierre

In auto gearbox cars there is connection between gearbox and engine. what you connected is a vacuum pipe to vacuum capsule,it for gear changes, it seems it faulty.

Hello Pierre,
A little more detail may help me on this one, however this sounds like possibly your power steering pipe? both these use auto trans fluid it is reddy brown in colour and viscosity (Thickness) watery.
If this is the pipe, check the fluid reservoir it should have either a Yellow top with power steering or a steering wheel diagram on it.
If full then please give me more information as to location on engine where pipe comes from and goes too as nowadays engine oil is usually internally dispersed. Only oil cooler pipes possibly? will go to a finned type radiator usually near the front grille of the vehicle.
I hope this points you in the right direction as I'm thinking of giving this help up as very hard to remain on top slot when loads of questions responded to and no replies.
Good Luck,
Paul 'W'

I have a 2006 renault megane dynamique and have oil in my water bottle.the car runs fine and no overheating

with the bonnet open and black plastic engine cover removed look on the right side of the cylinder head above the gearbox you will find a black housing that has water pipes connected to it that housing lets water circulate through its outer edge and in the center engine oil runs through it the housing being made of plastic it warps and lifts the rubber gasket which cause the oil in water so remove clean cylinder head surface clean threads in head and of bolts and fit a brand new housing flush cooling system top up with antifreeze and check oil level it might need to be toped up

How do I check the gearbox level in a 2004 renault megane?

Manual or auto .if the latter then its dealer only although some do have a filler plug at the front of the gearbox but no dipstick as the auto box was originally VW which had this facility as for the oil capacity iam afraid its not listed in my autodata book if its taking a time to drop into drive and the gearbox is leaking or appears to be a bit wet then stick a litre in a see how it goes if its drops into gear and changes alright then leave it alone at the litre addition

Oil leak from my SSangyong Rexton 2.7XDI continues to be a problem

drain /remove the oil until the correct level is obtained on the dip stick for starters . Next the "O" ring seal on the side of the box at the harness should be fitted with the use of a sealant ( locktite blue or red) in to a dry hole and allowed to skin . Incorrect fluid levels will cause the oil to aerate and flow out of any breather holes and will pressurize the transmission placing a strain on any seal .

Zigzag light on megane scenic dashboard comes on car revs high then low usually stalls then coming to a stop. 1998 renault megane scenic rt manual. thanks

this exact problem on a megane coupe is caused by a small air pipe that connects to a 2 inch wide black box that is located under the bonnet near the windscreen on the passangers side. the zigzag light indicates an electrical fault (in this case lack of compression and will affect your revs) if you find this pipe and it has snapped off. the reason for this may be that your engien is lose and moves. grab the engien with 2 hands and see if you can wobble it with allot of play. if so your engien mountings need replaceing. you may also experiance juddering in low gears
