Headlight bulb - replacement
Warning: Halogen gas filled bulbs are under pressure and my shatter if the surface is scratched or bulb is dropped. Wear eye protection, gloves, and do not touch surface of the bulb with your fingers because oil from your skin could cause it to overheat and fail prematurely, If you do touch the bulb surface clean it with rubbing alcohol. Try to handle bulb grasping only the base whenever is possible.
1. Remove headlight bulb cover from the back of the headlight housing on which side you replacing bulb.
2. Disconect the electrical connector from the bulb holder.
3. Rotate the headlight bulb retaining ring counterclokwise as wieved from the rear.
4. Withdraw the bulb and the retaining ring from the headlight housing.
5. Remove the bulb from the socket.

This is the same for the pick up as is the Trooper:

Disconnect the negative (−) battery cable.
Open the hood and disconnect the headlight bulb electrical connector.
There are two possible designs. For the first design, turn the bulb to remove it from the housing, for the second unscrew the retaining cap and remove the bulb.
WARNING
Do not touch the glass portion of the halogen bulb. Any contamination on the bulb may cause the bulb to burst when turned ON. If the bulb is contaminated, clean the glass portion with rubbing alcohol.
Hold the bulb by the plastic portion only. Install the bulb and connect the wiring harness. Make sure the sealing ring is in place.

Remove the front grille and/or headlight bezel.
Remove the headlight bulb retaining rim, headlight and disconnect the wiring.
Before installing, spray some silicone grease into the bulb socket.

Open the hood of your KIA Amanti and look behind the headlight
that has gone out. Locate the round knob on the back of the headlight.
Turn
the knob counterclockwise 1/4 of a turn and gently remove it from the
back of the headlight. Carefully remove the electrical cable within the
headlight housing that is attached to the back of the headlight bulb.
Locate
the metal clip that holds the light bulb in place by pushing the clip
arm straight in and sliding it down. Remove the bulb from the headlight
housing.
Replace
the old headlight bulb with new bulb. Secure it by sliding the metal
clip up to hold the bulb in place. Reattach the electrical cable and
replace the round knob to the back of the headlight housing.
Turn on the headlights to verify that they are in working order.
The headlight housing must be removed to access the bulbs on the back of the housing.HOWEVER!!! you must take loose the bumper on the side you are replacing. To do this you also have to take loose the inner finder and turn you wheel sharply in the opposite direction of the bulb to be replaced. There is a 10mm nut you will have to remove inside as well as multiple plastic fasteners along the inner finder and across the front under the hood.Bulb just twist out to remove once the housing is removed. Also, resist the urge to use a very large hammer.Use caution when pulling the plastic bumper out where the 10mm nut was removed, the stud can easily scratch the paint while working the housing out of its socket.
If you are replacing the headlight bulbs, rotate the bulb retaining lock ring counter-clockwise, pull retainer out of headlight housing and disconnect electrical connector. On the drivers side, you have to remove the fuse and relay box screws and move the box to the side to access the headlight bulb.
If you are replacing the headlight housings, there is a push pin and 2 screws on the inside, behind the hood and one screw on the outside at the bottom. Remove these and pull the housing out enough to remove the bulb retainers.
You gotta twist the whole thing, before you take off the wires from the back of the bulb about 45 degrees, then pull straight out. It's not "screwed in" like a light bulb in your house. I just changed mine, and had to figure it out. Took me a minute, but I got it. It's a small space in there. Good luck!
You probably figured this out by now, but in case you haven't... Reach up behind the rear bumper, rotate the bulb holder counterclockwise, then withdraw the holder from the housing and pull the bulb out. In some instances, the license light housing is held to the bumper with clips, and if you have a step on the bumper the housing is removed by pulling the housing upwards while pulling out at the bottom.
Having just purchased a 2002 Ford Focus I found that the passenger side
headlight had gone. Stumbled accross this thread and thought "looks
like a pain".
Popped to Halfords and picked up a H1 bulb, went home and had a look under the bonnet.
Armed with just a screwdriver I managed to change the bulb
within 10 mins. Flicked the headlight cover off using the screwdriver
for a bit of leverage. Unpluged the headlight and flicked off the
retaining clip. Removed the bulb.
Fitting was even easier - Put bulb in place, clip the retaining clip in place, plug in and replace cover.
Job done within 10 minutes with no prior experience of Fords.
Hope it helps
IMPORTANT!!! The retaining clip does NOT just flick off. Tried
that and broke the plastic stop that holds the retainer clip and allows
it to apply tension to the bulb! The retainer wire is held in place on
the bottom by a screw and clip on the bottom and is locked into a
plastic clip on top. To remove the wire, push the wire down and towards
the passenger side of the car, it will dislodge and you can then lower
it to remove the bulb. Once the bulb has been changed, you want to
replace the wire the same way to protect the plastic clip. I don't know
what I will do about the plastic clip now, the retaining wire has no
tension and I'm afraid the bulb will not remain seated properly.
However, knowing what I know now, I agree with the above answer: Done
in 10 minutes without prior experience with Fords.
=== Just finished doing this. A small mirror and a flashlight
make this job simple. It's very easy to do once you can see the top of
the clip.
small mirror and flashlight are essential, look at the way the
retaining wire seats before you unclip it. flat side of the bulb
houseing sits at the bottom of the access hole. retaining wire clips
bottom to top. I had a hard time with seating the new bulb and had to
figure out the retaining wire clipped from bottom to top because I
didn't look at it before I unclipped it. obviously fords designed this
for ease of manufacter with very little regard to the average layman
who would do the replacing.
Never mind I figured it out.
