If this has a 4.3 v6, which most do, remove air filter cover, base, mas air flow sensor, snorkle, and throttle body cover. T-stat is on drivers side front, top of engine between a/c compressor and throttle body.

Thermostat needs replaced

To replace a thermostat, you will need at least: 1. A new thermostat 2. Screwdriver 2. Needle-nosed pliers. Depending on the thermostat and location in your home, you may need more. Make sure the new thermostat you are using to replace the old one with is compatible to your 110-volt housing circuitry. Always turn off the electrical power to the home thermostat at the power panel or circuit breaker box.--------------------------------------------------------------------------

Where is the thermostat

The thermostat is normally located in the aluminium elbow that the top radiator hose connects to. The elbow is usually held down by two bolts and it is only necessary to remove these to replace the thermostat. It may not be necessary to remove any hoses. Take care that the new thermostat is correctly located in its recess and the old gasketing has been completely removed and that the new gasket has a smear of gasket cement on it. While tightening the bolts, make sure that the elbow is seating evenly and not catching on the edge of the thermostat or you could crack the elbow.

There is a 1996 GMC Safary sitting in a driveway for 3 years, It was running before, what is the safest way to make it run again?

Depends if you kept fluids in it. If so Just try to turn it over with a new battery. You old one probably is no good. After a few turns if you have new gas in tank, it should start. I bought a Ford Ranger that sat up for 3 years and it cranked right up.

1996 Cadillac Deville overheating. Bought a new coolant temp sensor. Need to know location of it. Thanks!

Not sure of the location of it. Usually they are in the thermostat housing or on the top of the engine. Maybe on one side of a cylinder head. You may also replace the thermostat itself and make sure your cooling fans are working properly

How do i change a thermostat??

buy the correct thermostat and thermostat gasket for your car, then locate the upper radiator hose. Where the upper hose connects to the engine there should be a two bolt hose connection/ thermostat housing ( could be 3 or 4 bolt, but most are 2) these bolts should be removed and then gently lift the hose and hose connection/thermostat housing exposing the old thermostat. note the position then replace the new thermostat just as the old was installed.

1996 gmc safari, 6cyl.-distributor gear broke.replaced.can't time

Roll the engine around until the compression stroke on number one cylinder (both valves are closed) and stop on top dead centre. The rotor should be pointing to the number one terminal on the distributor. If it is not extract the distributor and replace it with the rotor pointing to number one. That should be it. Hopefully their are no other issues relating to the original breakage so you should make sure the new distributor is spinning normally.

97 GMC Safari - best type thermostat, location, temp?

The owners manual will tell you the temp you should use, but you can also look at the old one when you pull it out as it will have the value stamped on it. As for the brand, most are all okay. I use stant brand since that's what the local parts store carries. To find the thermostat under the hood, follow the top radiator hose to the engine block and a domed housing. It's under the housing.
