93 k1500 5.7 just replaced the timing chain, spark plugs, dist cap, put on new headers and exhaust. The tac is jumping by a couple hundred while driving and acts like it is missing between 1500 and 2500rpm; especially while going up hills. I would say it seems like the clutch is slipping except the clutch was just replaced about 500 miles ago. Anyone have any ideas?

1995 jetta 3 spark goes into the distributor from the coil, but does not reach the plugs

Do you mean you can take off the coil to dist. high tension cable at the distributor end, and you get spark from the coil? If the spark is strong and blue, then the only thing between that and the spark plug wire end is the distributor cap and rotor. Both are high wear items, good to replace them every hundred thousand or two. Miles, that is.

An ignition system has a primary and a secondary circuit. The secondary circuit is the high voltage coming out of the coil to the top of the distributor, where it touches the top of the rotor, and the current is passed from the center of the rotor to the tip, where it whisks by the metal tip on the dist. cap where a spark plug wire connects. So a continuous current from the coil to the individual spark plug wires, and to the plugs. It's only an instant, but it's a current flow from origination in the coil to ground. When the current reaches the bottom of the spark plug, it has to jump a gap to find a ground. When it jumps, it conveniently makes a spark.

have you put a new set of plug wires on it. use a spark plug tester, and put it between plug wire and dist, cap. if it is sparking you will see it. if yes and not to plugs put on new plug wires. good-day ! if above checks out. remove dist, cap and see if shaft of dist, is turning. some of the hondas have a plastic type drive gear on bottom of dist, shaft. that goes bad.

My ford f150 is getting fire and gas but wont start i replaced the module, pickup in the dist.,cap, button, new plugs fuelpump, filter any ideas

check to see it the timing chain broke or jumped, have checked to see if you were getting spark and fuel in the begining.if you had these before then you replaced some things without needing them, unless its been a while since a tune-up was done.to check the timing chain turn the engine over until the timing marks are aligned.the pointer across from the 0 mark on the timing cover.then pull the distributor cap noting were #1 plug terminal is and the rotor should be pointing at that spot.if the timing chain broke it will sound like there is no compression.

sounds like you have jumped time, you need to check the valve timing, most likely need a timing chain. remove #1 spark plug and put your finger over the spark plug hole and have somone bump the engine over untill the compression blowes your finger off the spark plug hole, then set the timing mark to 0 degress ( it should be almost there when the compression blowes your finger from the hole ) then look at were the rotor is pointing it should be pointing at #1 spark plug wire if not check the timing chain.....good luck

let me know if there is any thing else you need.

I line up timing marks on engine and the dis is at 2 #

okay, did you have these items out of motor or did it quit running and this is what you have checked? I can fix this problem but i dont know where to start with this information. I can say that the crank has to be at zero, the #1 piston needs to be at TDC( up in cylinder) the cam sprocket has a mark that should align up with crank, the dist rotor should aim to #1 cylinder and the dist cap position wire should go to the #1 spark plug, If this was all in tack and now the truck wont start and this is your diagnosis then i would check the timing chain and gear for worn or nylon broken timing gear . If you put this together and you noticed this then you can either remove dist and align oil pump shaft and re-install or move the plug wires one post starting with the rotor aim as the #1 wire and proceed in a clockwise rotation 1-8-4-3-6-5-7-2 . As long as the dist can move for timing purposes it doesnt mater where the #1 wire starts as long as the #1 wire starts where the rotor aims and the motor is in time. If everything was in tack then the chain has jumped and needs replaced.

Sounds like your car may have jumped time.Advance your plug wires on the dist. cap and see if it will start. If it does start turn the moter off and at least youll know if you have a timing problem or not.

then i would replace whats called the hall effect sensor its that black plastic plate you see when you take dist cap off. just pull rotor and lift up the sensor.dist cap is what holds it on.also under the sensor will be a stamped sheet metal piece that looks like the top of a castle wall. make sure its not loose on the shaft.if it is then new dist will be needed

My 1986 gmc s15 will not stay started unless you keep shooting starting fluid in it. i have checked all fuses, changed the fuel pump and fuel filter.

Sounds like it only runs on starter fluid.sort of. Mine is an 84 with a carb. You may have a bad fuel injector or dirty at best. Have your checked for good spark or dist rotor pointing to #1 in dist cap at TDC. The timing chain may have worn and jumped a couple of teeth
