I don't list a fuel filter for anything built after 2000. Most brands stopped using external filters around that time. There is a sock filter in the tank.
After replacing the fuel filter did you prime the system? There should be a small circular pump on top of the filter assembly to prime it. I own a 2003 Duramax and it usually takes about 5 pumps / turn over / 5 more pumps / turn over / and 5 more and you should get it started. It will take longer if you didn't fill the fuel filter with diesel before installing it as well. Let me know. Thanks.
FUEL PRESSURE SHOULD BE 26 - 45 PSI. MAKE SURE FUEL FILTER NOT STOPPED UP. BECAUSE IT WILL GIVE YOU FALSE FUEL PRESSURE READING.YOUR FUEL PRESSURE READINGS WILL BE LOW IF FUEL FILTER IS STOPPED UP.
This vehicle does not have a fuel filter.Around 2005 Gm stopped using replaceable filters. They just use the strainer in the tank which you dont replace unless an issue arises. (I have not replaced one yet for being clogged). So there is no filter for you to replace. Thanks for using fixya let us know if we can assist you further
Here's a step by step, with photos, on how to replace an Explorer fuel filter. The Mountaineer should be exactly the same. The problem you describe can be attributed to the fuel filter. Good luck.
your fuel pressure should be 55 - 62 psi. if pressure is higher you have a restricted fuel return line.if pressure is lower you have a stopped up fuel filter.or a faulty fuel pump.
