I have a 2001 XJ8 and it has been leaking quite a bit of fluid onto the garage floor. My fiancee says it looks like transmission fluid. There are no other problems except the leaking, no noise, no over heating. The car drives great as usual. Can this be a serious transmission problem or just a type of leak?
This problem if left unrepaired can cost you thousands of dollars.
Transmission fluid will typically be red in color,,and will leak from near the center of the underside of the car.
Take it into a repair center as soon as you can
All good advice but go now and get it checked judy, dont take a chance and just say check and report on the leak to a garage you trust D
More than likely a small leak at fluid pan, could be as easy as snugging up a couple of bolts, but unless you love to gamble with paying out $2000, or more for a new transmission, instead of $20 to have it checked, or maybe $200 for fluid & filter change, then I'd have it looked at. At the very least, have a compotent person check your fluid level before you go to far with it. Redish color fluid?

Thanks, I will do just that.
It looks brown to me, or should that be the red color. I know when I drive it, it smells of burning oil.
Very small but persistent leak in place behind radiator which is both difficult and expensive to reach. Can I use a fluid sealant and which one is recommended by you. This car is the 'R' model super-charged.
