The remote will not open the trunk or the doors and I can't open the trunk with the trunk release in the car.

Make sure you have good batteries in your key fob. Also, there is a trunk, lock, and unlock relay. If anyone of those are bad you can have this problem.

The little 'door' I need to open to get to my petrol cap won't open. Any ideas? Have tried WD40, but no use...

If it's a remote opening one most cars have a manual latch pull in the trunk. Check along the edges of your trunks upholstery on the side where the door is.

Car was hit from behind I need to know If I can get in the trunk through the back seat? 1992 Mercedes-Benz

I am not that familiar with the gas E class of that year but in the diesel you can not get to the trunk through the back seat without removing the gas tank which is upright between the trunk and the back of the car. It would make sense that the gas model would be the same design.
