My 1997 toyota corolla 1.6gli automatic transmission car has an OVERDRIVE button on its stick. When do I use it? Others say it should be on all the time. But what is the purpose of its OFF option? Help...

Use it only on highways and you should wait until you are in 4th gear to turn it on. If used in a moutain area, it will put more strain on the transmission so make sure it is not on while going up hill.

If you are going up a hill and the transmission starts to shift in and out of overdrive, then turn it off. You can also turn it off when going down a long hill to save your brakes. Otherwise just leave it on all the time.

How to engage my overdrive for my pajero 4m40

Engaging your overdrive depends on the specific type of vehicle you have. Some vehicles have an automatic overdrive, which can be engaged by pressing a switch, while others have manual transmission. In these cases, the overdrive is engaged by moving the gear stick into the overdrive position. Refer to your vehicle's owner's manual for further information and guidance.

Where is the overdrive relay located on a 97 850 volvo?

It is not an overdrive transmission. It is a 4 speed automatic. It has no overdrive relay.

Where is the overdrive selenoid

You either have a transmission problem, or a gearbox problem. It has nothing to do with an overdrive button. Overdrive buttons are used mainly for towing in automatic vehicles, increasing the torque and lowering the RPM (Revolutions Per Minute) on an engine.

We just bought a 93 toyota corolla. Even when I have the overdrive engaged it keeps flashing O/D Off does this mean it is going out Thanks T

If it is flashing then it is a malfunction indicator. Think of it as a "check transmission light." It could be anything from a loose connection in the shifter to a bad transmission. How does it drive? Is it shifting into overdrive?

What is the o/d button on top of automatic gear stick for please

Over Drive..... Generally speaking, overdrive (OD) is the highest gear in the transmission. Overdrive allows the engine to operate at a lower rpm for a given road speed. This allows the vehicle to achieve better fuel efficiency, and often quieter operation on the highway. When it is switched on, an automatic transmission can shift into overdrive mode after a certain speed is reached (usually 70+ km/h [43+ mph] depending on the load). When it is off, the automatic transmission shifting is limited to the lower gears. For an automatic transmission, it is almost always best to select overdrive and allow the transmission to control engagement of the overdrive. (It may be necessary to switch it off if the vehicle is being operated in a mountainous area or when towing a trailer.) With a manual transmission, overdrive should usually be selected when the average speed is above 70 km/h (approx. 43 mph).

I have a 98 Toyota Corolla - Right Hand side of the instrument panel I have a light that says "O/D OFF". What is it trying to tell me. Thanks - Kay moench

the ' O/D OFF ' light is a indicator that tells you that the ' overdrive ' for the transmission is OFF --- when the light is out, that means that you have selected ' OverDrive ' for your transmission.

When I press the overdrive button, there is an indicator that shows o/doff- When is it on. Is it on when it doesnt show the indicator or when its showing?

The indicator light will only show when the overdrive is in the off position. No light means that the overdrive is on.

I have a light on my dash that says o/d off

i assume that you have a sentra 1997 automatic transmission. OD orange light on your dash means that your overdrive is not engaged meaning your sentra is not on fuel efficient mode.

solution: in your automatic stick shift, driver side is a button just below the T bar. press that button until the OD light dissapears on your dash. you're now in overdrive mode.

1996 Corolla Auto Transmission problem

Hi. 2005 Corolla CE. It's normal. They tend to do this when upshifting form 1st to 2nd gear. No timing chain readjustment needed.

96 Corolla. Overdrive not working properly, if not engaging after 45mph constantly. If driving on the city, is normal, but not after 45mph, when the car is trying to engage overdrive in order to save gas and preserve the trans gears. If not able to get help at the dealership, find another one and explain them the situation.
