Passenger Air Bag Deactivation (PAD) Switch
The passenger air bag deactivation (PAD) switch:

  • is located on the instrument panel to the right of the climate controls.
  • contains a light emitting diode (LED) that indicates when the PAD switch is activated (passenger air bag disabled).
  • allows the passenger air bag deployment circuit to be disabled using the ignition key.
  • should be used whenever a child safety seat is being used in the front passenger seating position.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Prove Out the System
Prove out the system means to turn the ignition switch from the OFF to the RUN position and visually monitor the air bag indicator with the air bag modules installed. The air bag indicator will light continuously for approximately six seconds and then turn off. If an air bag supplemental restraint system (SRS) fault is present, the air bag indicator will either:
  • fail to light.
  • remain lit continuously.
  • flash.
The flashing might not occur until approximately 30 seconds after the ignition switch has been turned from the OFF to the RUN position. This is the time required for the restraints control module (RCM) to complete the testing of the SRS. If the air bag indicator is inoperative and an SRS fault exists, a chime will sound in a pattern of five sets of five tone bursts. If this occurs, the air bag indicator will need to be repaired before diagnosis can continue.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Active Commands
This command allows the technician to verify operation of the air bag indicator, passenger air bag deactivation (PAD) lamp and chime. When the air bag output command is executed, the indicator, the PAD lamp, chime and the chime are activated simultaneously for approximately four seconds. All devices are deactivated automatically.

SOURCE: I Replaced Leather seats with airbags with cloth

hi.
the airbag check system still thinks that there are airbags in the seats. when it does not get the right signal from the seats it flashes a fault. the dead head plug ends in the new seats are probably just blanking plugs that are not actually completing the circuit. unfortunately, you probably need the system to be reprogrammed so it does not check for these seats. i would look in the phone book and ring a few of the smaller "back street" garages to get a price for this to be done as it is going to be far cheaper than the dealer. the job should tace under 30 minutes to do. DO NOT make any attempt to transfer the airbag system from the old seats into the new ones. my friend once tried this. when he reconnected the battery his nice new seats exploded.......airbags are very dangerous and need to be dealt with properly. good luck. 1999 audi a4 airbag light just came on and stays on?

When the airbag light (SRS) is on or blinks it means a fault has occurred in the system and the airbag diagnostic monitor has disabled the system, the most common problem that turns the light on is a break in the connection to the steering wheel mounted airbag, this is due to a rotating ribbon contact that breaks under the steering wheel that connects the airbag to the wiring harness and the diagnostic monitor, the part is called the clock spring contact, a coiled up ribbon electrical contact that turns with the steering wheel while maintaining a mechanical connection to the airgag mounted on the steering wheel, to replace this part you must disarm the airbag system and remove the steering wheel, this requires a special steering wheel puller tool and that you disarm the airbag system before you start the work, to do this disconnect the battery negative cable for 1 hour prior.

Airbag light

Takeit to a dealership and have then look at the airbag system. One of 3 items could have gone bad/broken . seat sensor, airbag clock spring, or a wire in the steering column. Oh, if u have a passenger side airbag that is another set of wires and sensors for that one also. Dealership have the scan tools for airbags.

Airbag Light Stays on when hot outside, but not when cool outside

My experience with this issue, (and I have seen it before, several times), is a poor connection at either side front seat belt connectors. You should pull off the center trim panel, to expose the bottoms of the seatbelts, and plug/unplug/replug the connector 10-12 times; there is a known issue on poor connections on the seat belt wiring harnesses. Just replugging it works pretty good.

Upon starting my 2001 Mazda B3000, the airbag sensor light blinks about 10 times, then stays on solid until I turn off the engine. I've tried the airbag key, tried taking out the battery to reset the...

either the collision sensor or the bag control module failed. I advise taking it to a dealer, only because if you start messing around with the sensors, you can deploy the airbag, then you'd be worse off.
