SOURCE: under normal driving conditions there is a slight

If you have never changed the Differential lube, now would be a good time. Its either a pinion bearing or one of the axle shaft bearings. There are different lubes for regular and limited slip axles.

There is a company called "duralube" which makes products which do a good job at quieting down noisy parts. Its available online and at some NAPA stores. You need to remove the rear Differential cover and wipe out the case with Brakeclean on a rag. Then replace the gasket and reassemble. Some shops just pump out the old lube and it does not get the sediment out of the rear end.

I hope my solution is very helpful and prevents your parts from having further damage. I had 161,000 miles on my Crown Vic, and it was running strong when sold.

SOURCE: How do you replace rear

Hi there,

Many people face problems when trying to remove the back struts of this particular vehicle. If you can find any tool(lever) to push down the knuckle while you are pushing up on the spring seat, then removing the struts would be just like any other standard strut.

It is probably the hook which has been added that is making the removal procedure much difficult.

Hope this helps...

Front end noise

A few possibilities with front end noise. Possible worn shock bushings or suspension bushings. As a car accelerates or slows down, the front suspension raises or lowers, thus causing movement of front end components.

Vibration in rear end

There are several other things which can make a noise. The people you showed the car have the advantage of hearing or feeling the noise that we do not have a chance to do.

A catalytic noise can change with the engine RPM. You can rev up the engine in Park or Neutral and should be able to replicate the noise. If not, then you have a moving part making the noise.

Sometimes the Emergency brake material comes loose from the metal backing and jams inside the rear drum/rotors. It will cause vibration when pulling away from a stop, and eventually will grind into powder.

Rear axle differential clutches. There are friction disks inside some types of rear-ends. A special lube additive makes these work. Sometimes a refill of additive and lube can make marginally performing units more quiet.

U-joints can make noise and vibrate. Its another moving part noise.

The fan clutch can also make noise and vibration. The A/C compressor and compressor clutch bearing can make noise. The A/C clutch operates intermittently depending on pressure and temperature.temperature.

At first I thought my cv joint was going bad on my 2000 Silverado (classic popping sound) then I turned down my stereo and realized it was coming from the rear drivers side. When I pump the breaks it will...

First thing to verify (since its hard to isolate these sounds without using this little trick), turn off
stereo and while driving forward or turning stick an ear (or two) out the driver's window and
make sure the sound is coming from the rear diver's side.

Assuming that the sound is coming from the rear driver's side, you'll suspect the rear
suspension components: rear ball joints, shock mounts (upper & lower), trailing arm. The only
way to check
your rear suspension components is to jack up vehicle, remove L rear tire, and look for
anything loose, or missing a bolt or a nut (this happens more often than you'd ever
guess - they vibrate loose).
Also: axle shaft bearing - worn/damaged/dry. Replace or lubricate (if dry).

May seem to be unrelated but, I had a similar problem with my last truck and it wound up being ball joints. It sounds similar, (especially the rocking forward after stop), might be something to check. If you're talking about a 4WD, it could be your transfer case.
