I just bought a jeep liberty, 2005. It's automatic with 4wheel drive option. I do not have an owners manual. Do not know how to engage the 4wheel drive. I have never had a 4wheel drive vechile before.

I have a 2005 jeep liberty. My 4wd high will not engage. I can put it in neutral and 4low. I drove home in snow and ice in 4wd high. Forgot to disengage. A day later leaving for work and noticed it was...

You dont say if you have manual 4 wheel drive or electronic on the fly. Anyway, if you have the electronic knob, sometimes ice will get into the 4 wheel drive solenoid and cause it to not move into position. If you can get into a warm garage or underground parking for about an hour, you will see if it thaws and starts to work again.

2004 Jeep Liberty Noise/Problem

if you are driving on hard surface ( sealed roads) in 4wd then don't as if damages the drive train
what is happening is that there is a torque wind up from the front and rear wheels running at different distances and the cluck you hear is when at some point that torque is released and allows the selection to disengage or engage
4wd is for use in slipper conditions unless you have an AWD which will become 4WD when required by you after selection of the control

I cant get the leaver to engage from 2 whhel drive

hi,

try leaving the main gearshift in neutral and shut the car off , then try and move the lever to four wheel drive. or maybe try to switch it while slowly backing up. most likely since its hardly ever used it just might be stuck from non use. if neither of those ideas fix it. call the dodge dealership and ask to talk to a mechanic in the service department, they might be able to help, call them first before you take it in$$$..
