Re; guru 1998 ford escort no power

Yes guru the check engine light came on with the problem when it began. It started right up this am, like it was getting gas, then after about 15 minutes of running right, like someone turned the switch off, it acted again like it was getting no gas. When you push the accelerator it does very little to speed up. A handful of people have said to replace the pump and filter. I just want to be sure the pump is the prblem. Its cost is pricy, unlike the filter at 12 dollars than the pump is 180.00 dollars. Thanks for any and all help ... cyn

Is it COLD Weather there? below 20-30-? If so or even Not Fuel Filter Is A Preventive Maintenance Part Anyways So I would Advise to Try Replacing Filter and Using Gas Line Antifreeze in COLD weather or Fuel Injector Cleaner in Harmer Weather, This Way If fuel Delivery after running for 15 min is a Problem and The Cause is What I suspect Your Cost is MUCH LESS than a "SHOTGUN EFFECT that Leaves you with the Question of WHAT Fixed the Problems ? 12 -18 Filter & a Bottle of
CLEANER or NOFREEZ or the 180$ Pump, IF you can Test For Fuel Pressure both while its runnin strong & then when it Drops to the No getting gas stage. still start with the small stuff. IF you DO need a Pump ou Need the New Filter With It. BUT if filter fixes prob , Money saved if not Money NOT WAISTED hope it helps ya !! ,RejakWilson

It could be one of two things either the fuel pump or the timing belt could of jumped timing. Have someone check the fuel pump pressure of course after you replace the fuel filter and see if that's it

I own a 1998 Ford Escort S.E 4 Cyl. I have to flick the ignition switch to start the car. I assume the check valve is bad. Does that come with a nerw fuel pump?

If you are saying you think the fuel pump is loosing pressure when the engine is off, then yes the check valve is in the pump. But it could also be a problem with the fuel pressure regulator.
A mechanic would check the fuel pressure at the engine and find out if it is dropping off.

1998 Ford Escort Sport, 4 cyl engine. Will not start; accessed fuel pump and determined it is not moving gas or coming on when the key is turned. Removed fuel pump and hooked it up to a power source and it...

did you check the INERTIA SWITCH? above the right rear wheel? sometimes even slamming the door or trunk will set it off. power goes to that switch and then to the pump. Fuse OK? Relay OK? You always check for power at the pump before going through the trouble to take it out.
