I installed a Sony XAV64BT in my van and now the FM reception is terrible. Is there an antenna booster that is no longer powered or an antenna adapter? The antenna cable appears to have a standard male connection. I have the same stereo in my 2000 F150 and it works great.
The cable that plugs in for the aerial could be a extension piece and puilling the old radio out could have unplugged this extension?

If the antenna is on the front, pop the hood, and locate where the antenna wire connects to the bottom of the antenna and make sure it is connected well. If everything checks out there, you will have to pull the radio from the dash, and look at the back of it. There will be a large black wire by itself connected to the radio. Push it in to make sure its connected as well. That could really be your only problem unless your radio happens to have a fault on the inside which is extremely rare. Hope that helps

does your vehicle have a towbar fitted i have found in the past that some towing relays can cause interference if they are not wired to a correct power source also any other aftermarket electrical equipment can cause this

While a.m. radio does not get very good reception anyways, they have after-market antennas that will improve reception to the radio. You can get it at the parts store or you can have it installed at a car audio installation center.

have mine in the shop for exact same problem. Turns out it is a throttle position sensor. Seems to be heat sensitive. These 105 degree days been tough. goes to idle soon as engine gets warm, then continues to do so every 20 miles or so. All the engine restarts. ( I shift to neutral, kill engine, and restart, but a big hazzard since it kills the power steering, but not as hazzardous as stalling in the middle of interstate) but it blew the engine resistor, which iis going to cost me 500.00 for the TPS and another 250.00 for the blower resistor. Hope you have better luck than me, van is still under warranty, but these were both uncovered items.
