A code of p1406 is coming up. the car is starting to run ruff and is using a lot more gas than usual.
This code indicates a problem with the EGR valve's pintle position. The
EGR Valve's pintle could just be stuck in which case the problem could
be fixed by cleaning the EGR valve.
If the EGR valve is
electronically controlled or cleaning the valve does not fix the
problem, you will most likely have to replace the EGR Valve.
Keep in mind that the EGR valve relies on inputs from other sensors to
determine the pintle position. If one of these other sensors is not
operating correctly, it could be giving you a false P1406 error code.

Multiple engine misfire is related to the coils and the ignition control module. I have a 2002 with the 3.8 engine. It has three coils. I just went through this problem. I bought one coil and tried it in each position with no improvement. It was the ignition control module. Mine is located under the three coils. A relatively easy item to replace. Cost about $140.

It sounds like you have a vacuum leak or intake gaskets leaking. Try this. Start the engine and let it reach the idle it want to go to. Get you a can of Brake Clean and spray it around the intake manifold (it on the top center of the engine, you may have to removed a plastic cover) If the engine idle changes up or down then the intake gaskets are leaking hence your vacuum leak. I hope this will help you.

Clean the battery cables. Test the battery.
If the voltage is low, the car won't run right.
Computer needs 12-14 volts.

unhook the battery for ten minutes and hook it back up... that will clear the code... if your stereo requires a code make sure you know it first.

make sure you have power getting to your starter when you crank. check the small nut on the starter. should have 12 v or very close to it. this will tell you if your getting power to the starter or if somethign before the starter and something maybe with your anti theft system or not. its hard to say online cause of that anti theft. doest the light flash at all? the anti theft light?
if your getting power to the starter when you crank make sure your getting good power to the starter by turning on the head lights and see if they dim. a good starter will cause the headlites to dim when attempting to start. if nothing dims check connections. or assume bad starter motor. make sure your also getting power to the main starter stud as well.
good luck
