If your looking to replace them, wich is what most do today, it is cheaper to purchase a axle with new cv joints than to rebuild them. It is a very simple job in todays cars, remove tires remove lower tie rod , remove nut in center of the rotor and pull wheel assembley to the side hanging from the strut, pull axle out replace the transmission seal, push new axle in. When putting wheel assembley on, use a hydraulic jack on bottom of the rotor to push it to the axle splines and put the new nut on .

I have a 91 Taurus GL 3.0 V6 w/auto trans. On transaxle half shafts, do I have to take the passenger side off first. Also do I need to use a differential rotator tool to drive out the other half shaft....

You can take out either half shaft first. Doesn't matter. Yes you should install a new axle nut, if you bought new/rebuilt halfshafts they come with one. I have never had to use a special tool to get the shafts out. I also haven't had to replace the strut to knuckle bolt.

96 Chevy Cavalier, auto, 2.2ltr When I shift from park into reverse it doesn't grab until I give it some gas and then 'clunks' into gear; and when I try to put it into drive it does the same thing. It is...

sounds like it might be a little low on trans fluid, and if i remember correctly these vehicles dont have a trans dipstick to check fluid level, but i could be wrong..if it does check it with the car running on a level surface and in park, hope this helps

How do you remove axle shafts from transaxle on a 99 chevy cavalier is there a clip that needs removed first?

Put a prybar between the shaft and the transmission and try to pop it out, it has a circlip holding it in. You don't remove the clip, it compresses when the shaft pops out.

I need to Know where the speedometer sensor is on a 1991 chevy cavalier Z24 3.1 mutiport with an Automatic transmission 2WD

The speed sensor for your 1991 Chevy Cavalier Z24 is located on the transmission just inboard of where the passenger side drive axle enters the trans-axle.

When the car is cold the trans slips reall bad it wont move but if i let the car warm up for ten or fifteen it moves just fine any ideas its a 96 z24 cavalier

There could be a number of different problems here, the first thing I would check or get checked is the transmission oil levels, most auto-matic trans have a bilt in safety, when the oil is low it will not engage or drive..

My 96 chevy cavalier ,has a standard tranny , all the sudden it will not go into reverse , but it goes into drive.

will it go in with engine not running? if so look at slave or clutch master to be bad or clutch needs replacement,,,if it will not go into gear with engine not running, repair trans. or replace trans.

Chevy Transmission Diagram

I have a 1998 olds Regency frt whl drive auto trans. Do not know the trans ref like 460 e? or what.
Any how have had a frt growl, vib @ 65 mph, up and down ride at 10mph. New balanced tires replaced lh whl bearing by guess mechanic said th whl brg was ok.
Latest Son checked the drive axles for movement--there is up and dn movement @ shaft into trans end --lh & Rh side also clunkie noise. Trans seal not leaking, yet.
I suspect brgs or a bushing in trans end as it accepts the drive axle. If it the problem is it replaceable after axle removeable??
