Sitting in bumper to bumper traffic the battery, brake light started to flash and the interior lights dimmed until I turned off the heat and radio then all was fine. This happened for the first time 3 weeks ago, I took it in the place checked the starter, battery, and alternator all came back good. They cleaned the connectors and all has been good. Today sitting in bumper to bumper traffic for 5 miles my battery, break light started to flash, interior lights started to dim, engine reved on its own and my car felt like it was trying to learch forward with my foot on the brake, I would go when the light was green and no issues, have to stop and repeat. Anyone have any clue? I so can't afford a new car.

first off, when it wont start check the voltage from the battery cable where it connects to the starter, if you have 12.5 volts there that will take battery cable corrosion out of the equation, then check to see if you have ground at the starter, which it sounds like you do not. it sounds like your ignition switch but hard to say from discription, make sure your battery cables are all tight, if you have all of this and its good i would say its the ignition switch which you can look up how to test in a chiltons or haynes manual from the auto parts store, if all of that stuff is good you can take the starter off and have it tested for free at autozone or any autoparts store, but usually the starter goes out really quick or just quits all together, if your not hearing a click noise when you turn it then your solinoid isnt engaging and means you dont have ground to it due to a short or bad ignition switch, that about covers the whole starting system, fuse isnt bad since it works sometimes. good luck hope that this helps you send me a message if you need more indepth help =)

Just the change dipstick and the oil in the car and also check if there is any debris in the car as the broken dipstick which may cause damaged to the engine ,You found the problem it was the oil burn which is causing the loss of power ,and also clean the alternator ..
Good luck....
SOURCE: lights dim and radio and A/C turn off together for about 5 second
Your issues has more than one cause. The shifting into 2nd and 1st are separate to the radio & A/C. The blinker circuit is ALSO separate to the radio and A/C. The electrical system needs to be diagnosed, starting with the battery & charging system... Then look for any bad gound circuits/cables... starting with the battery, then chassis, then any individual power components (TCM, A/C, Lights, blinkers, A/C blower motor & controls, etc.)

yes you have an engine misfire, probably a bad spark plug or plug wire, maybe a coil issue, do not continue to drive it or you will do severe damage to the catylitic converter

If you have not found the problem yet, check the transmission interlock. Sounds like the shifter interlock switch may not be engaging to allow the starter to activate!

Hi pandabear5, I want to help you with your question, but I need more information from you. Can you please add details in the comment box? Could be that your alternator can't handle that much idle time. Especially if you have the headlights on. Strange things happen when battery voltage gets low.
