I have a 2000 jeep grand cherokee that stalls after 30 minutes or 5 min of driving. There are no codes and it starts right up. A couple of times i had to wait 2 min before it would restart..also checked fuel pressure ok.
Any help would be appreciated.
Does it hesitate at 1500 RPM's???
Try replacing the idle air control motor or IAC for short. i actually had one at work today with your same complaint. and sure enough the valve was a carboned up and wouldnt work properly. and its nearly impossible to clean to the point where it will work properly. cost for the part at a dealer is about $115.
Engine stall or RPM fluctuates
at idle.
This problem is commonly caused by a dirty automatic idle speed control valve and throttle valve. Buy a can of throttle valve cleaner (do not use carburetor spray cleaner!) from NAPA or Carquest (made by CRC chemicals) and spray it into the air intake while the engine is running, use up about 1/2 the can, engine will try to stall hold the speed up, shut it down and let it soak for 30 minutes, restart and blow out the remaining fluid, shut it down and disconnect the negative battery cable for 5 Min's to reset the base idle control
1. Start and run the engine. Verify normal fuel system pressure of 339
kPa +/- 34 kPa (49.2 psi +/- 5 psi).
2. Stop the engine. Verify that the fuel system pressure does not fall below
207 kPa (30 psi) in less than five (5) minutes.
3. If the fuel pressure does not fall below 207 kPa (30 psi) in less than five (5)
minutes, then the long crank time may not be due to the fuel system. Further
diagnosis must be made to the entire engine system.
Hope this helps you, because lack of fuel can cause a missfire and by what you said this is were i would start before spending any more money. If i can help just re post.
Thanks dodge tec
