I have a 1988 Volvo 740 sedan. When I drive it, I can feel the engine "surge." Lately, it has been dying and it won't start until it sits for about 20 minutes or so. After it starts and is running down the road, the surging stops for awhile and then the cycle starts all over again. Any suggestions?

If wiggling the wires cured the code, then one of the wires is broken inside the insulation. Pull on each wire one at a time. look for the colored insulation to stretch, this will be the broken wire. For the other car that wont rev up, this is a common when the catalytic concverter is plugged up. This will also cause MAF codes, and in turn, TRAC OFF light.

There a lot of cuses for this but you need to scan the vehicule before to know what sensor is having troubles, if is too much expensive the scan in your city consider to buy one. I see in ebay a lot of types of OBD2 scanners for $25-30!

Certainly sounds like the o2 sensors have become contaminated and are not acting as fast as they used to , or are supposed to.

Why are you changing around on part no.s They are all calibrated to a specific application. Get the same part no. as what was removed.

sounds like you have a very dirty mass air flow meter. invest in a new one and be sure to clean the throttle body with an appropriate cleaner and tooth brush.
