I just bought a 2006 Impala (I dont know if its an LS??) I can see the dummy lights for abs & traction but the maunual says they should light up for a second when starting the ingnition. Mine does not do this. Driving in our first snow fall today, wheels spinning, I expected the traction light to come on indicating it was working...nothing. (My other showed when it was on) Does my car have traction control or is the dummy light really just a dummy?

Usually many models with different equipment, they use the same dash to reduce parts inventories, as a result, you may have unlit "accesories" because your vehicle does not have them. The vehicle has a self check phase when you first turn the key to the "Run" position. Everything you car is equipped with that has a monitor light will light up. you may see bleedover light slighlty illuminating things that are not in your vehicle, but they may be used in other vehicle trim levels. You will know for certain when a light bulb is directly beneath the indicated item..

If the lights light up for traction control for example; when you first turn the key to the Run position, your car is equipped with it. If it has it and the light did not light when the wheels spin, there may be a sensor malfunction that should be checked..

SOURCE: 2005 impala ls the abs light and the traction control light comes

You'll need to have the codes read from the computer. You will have a code that indicates one of the front wheel sensors is bad. This could be the case, but they are very expensive as they are built into the wheel bearing assemblies. It is more likely that the wiring harness between the frame and the part of the front spindle that holds the harness, has broken internally. It is a very common problem and can be repaired with a new wiring harness section or by tracking down the fault and repairing it.

2006 chevy impala traction control

Reduced power is a problem with electronic throttle contol . drive by wire . Do you know what this is ? Taking the vehicle an having it hooked up to diagnostic tool an checking for DTC'S - diagnostic trouble codes is always a first step when trying to find the root cause of any trouble light ! And not auto zone , pep boys , or advance auto parts . Thier diagnostic tool will not check codes in all system control modules .

2006 Cobalt. ABS and TC dummy lights appear once in a while. Seems like it happens more when temperatures are hot outside. Doesnt come on when its cool during my morning commute

There are no dummy lights on a vehicle

Any light you get on your dash is a warning to
direct you to at least check for codes in a day
or so, & decide if continuing to drive it is a good
idea

Almost every time your get any light you have a
failure in some system & the lights are not going
away until the car is repaired

The ABS & Traction Control System is explained in your
owners manual & any repair shop can diagnose those issues

The system should no be temp sensitive unless the electronic
abs module was somehow the problem

What would cause traction active light come on

i have had this problem since about 6 months after i bought my 2001 impala. the problem is in the hubs. the wireing that runs throw them rubs together and eventually shorts the traction and abs. easy solution to fix it though. get into the hubs and wrap the wires. otherwise take the car in and explain the problem to them and exactly what you need done. 9-10 times they won't fix the problem unless you tell them what you want done. it is really simple and going to the dealer should only cost you about 100 to fix.
