How do i remove the liftgate interior panel in order to replace the latch on a 2007 ml 320 cdi?

There are two plastic sections that cover the liftgate. one covers the entire lower half of the liftgate. the second is approximately 2" by 24" on the bottom of the liftgate and contains the lifting handle indentation and the red electric lift switch. i'm told that the larger one pops outward and lifts up but i don't want to break it or the bottom plate. can anyone advise or provide a drawing? tx.

2008 GMC Acadia manual liftgate will not open. Is there a way to bypass the electronic switch to get it open and replace the switch or latch?

{: ) Liftgate Access Plug is located at the bottom center area of the liftgate trim panel.
From inside the vehicle lower the second and third, if applicable, row seats.
Use a small flat-bladed tool to remove the access plug from the liftgate lower interior trim panel. It is like a round and smooth plastic grommet.
Push on a silver lever located on the right just through the access hole to unlock the liftgate.
Open the liftgate from the outside of the vehicle using the exterior handle.
