Heat/AC Blower fan speed only works on High

On a 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee, when turning on the heater or air, the fan speed will only work on high.

    I have had this problem fixed two times and complained to the company and asked several times if there was a recall on this. jeep saying no and the garage wants 150 to fix. my fan will only work on high.

    my heat and air conditioning only works on high...this really gets on my nerves ....most the time i drive half froze to death!!!!

    Same thing just happened to my 2005 Grand Cherokee Laredo. AC/ Heat only works on high. Could someone please explain the exact "unit" mentioned before to find on ebay?

    Is this by chance the relay fan switch? Does it require removing the entire dashboard? Thanks in advance for your help.

    my heater would only work on heat and vent at first no defrost, now it dosnt work at all. The ac blower works

Alot of people have the same problem with the fan switch and blown bulbs. There really is no fix for this. Jeep really screwed up when designing the heater control assembly. The cheapest solution is to buy another unit off Ebay. Can always go to the dealer but be ready to PAY for there mistakes.

Hi, the likely problem is the switch. To access the switch, first unscrew and remove the trim plate from the instrument panel. This will expose the screws to the climate control panel. Your panel may look different than the picture. The exact procedure from autozone.com is pasted below. Once you have the panel out, the switch can be removed from the panel and tested. Use an ohmmeter connected between the switch terminals that would connect to the dark green and black wires. With the switch on high, the resistance should be zero. If not, replace the switch. Please let me know if you have questions, and thanks for using FixYa.

climate control panel removal:

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable. Remove the ash tray.
  2. Remove the instrument panel bezel fasteners and remove the bezel.
  3. If necessary, remove the clock.
  4. If necessary, unfasten the radio retaining screws and remove the radio. Refer to this section for the proper procedure.
  5. Remove the control panel screws, pull the panel outward and disconnect and tag the hoses, wires and cable.
  6. Remove the control cable locking tab by using a small prytool to release the tab.

To install:
  1. Engage the control cable and fasten the retaining tab.
  2. Engage the hoses and wires, install the control panel and tighten the retaining screws.
  3. Install the radio and clock. Refer to the proper procedure in this section.
  4. Install the instrument panel bezel and fasteners then connect the negative battery cable. Check the control panel to verify proper operation.

              My 95 jeep cherokee heater switch on ly works on high
              I would try to replace the blower motor resistor first,If that doesnt repair your problem you may wanna try replacing the blower speed switch.The resistor is located under the passenger side of the dash mounted in the heater box.

              My heater won't work unless I turn it all the way to the high position where the fan comes on. Only then will it blow out heat.

              1996 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo AC blower wont work on high
              I'd check the relay and the resistor ...don't have a location for yours but the resistor is always installed into the heater box so it stays cool. you can usually follow the wiring back to the relay as it's generally nearby. Resistor looks like a piece of circuit board material with several wires connected to it with two screws holding it to the heater box so it sits flush except for the wires. It has several coils inside...any that are broken have failed.

              Air/fan/heat only works on high in 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee, or it will start again if I open and slam shut my glove compartment.
              Check the blower motor speed dropping resistor pack and it's connections. It is located in the ducting airflow of the blower motor.

              Heating and air conditioning
              The blower motor works on high setting ONLY when the blower resistor is bad. The blower motor resistor is held in place with 2 screws and attached into the heater housing under the right side of the dashboard. You can identify the resistor by the big wires that are connected to the connector. If this heating/cooling system is the auto temp type, the part is a bit high on the price.

              Well, the blower resistor handles the lower speeds and the hi-blower relay handles the hi speed only. if the fan still works on the lower speeds then the resistor is bad. if the fan doesn't work at all then your motor has failed and or burn't the relay out also. if you can get your blower to start by hitting the kick panel above the pass. side foot area then the motor is bad. if you are handy enough to drop the kick panel and access the motor then check the connections at the motor. Then wack the motor and see if it comes on then. you will most likely find the problem if you follow those simple rules above. Good luck.
