I recently replaced the fuel pump about 3 mo. ago. When the car dies, it is like turning off the key. When trying to restart it will crank normal but fuel pump is not kicking in. When I let it set for about 5 min. it will start right up as though nothing had happened. NO Codes are displayed. It seems like it shuts down when you let off the throttle while driving and sometimes it does it while sitting at idle for a couple minutes.
Hello
The engine
and automatic transmission in this vehicles drive train
are fully electronically controlled by a computer called the PCM
(Power Train Control Module). Whenever a problem like this occurs the
computer stores a record of the problem (there are of course some
exceptions to this, like the fuel pump, engine coolant temperature
sensor and MAF sensor for instance) in the form of a fault code in
its memory, to read these fault codes you must have the systems
memory scanned with a special tool. Once the fault code(s) are read
you then must perform the appropriate diagnostic testing to find and
resolve the problem(s) DO NOT REPLACE ANY PARTS UNTIL A
TRAINED TECHNICAIN HAS DIAGNOSED THE PROBLEM TO AVOID SPENDING YOUR
HARD EARNED MONEY ON PARTS THAT MAY NOT CORRECT THE PROBLEM

I changed the filter but problem is still there. If I try cranking it when it quits, it will go into "limp mode" and once it starts (after letting it sit for about 5 min) when I put it in gear to go it will shift harshly for the first two or three shifts and then it goes just fine. I've hear that it could be the crank sensor getting bad but before I spend $100+, I'd like to check it out. I'm a 40 year veteran equipment mechanic but not sure how or if it can be tested.
