So where all 3 Alternators returned & tested?

Do you have wiring diagrams out ready to go
& a volt meter to start your testing?

SOURCE: I have a 2000 Mitsubishi Montero . Alternator problems

Verify your connections at the battery, not just for being tight but for corrosion as well, on the terminal and the cable.

Also check for oil on the bottom of the alternator. The right hand cam seal is notorious for leaking directly onto the alternator, killing them quickly.

That all being said, I haven't seen an aftermarket alternator last on a Montero for more than a month or two; so if your new ones are not OEM, you might consider getting a genuine one if your corrosion and oil leak checks are OK.

SOURCE: mitsubishi montero sport 99 - car will not start.

could be your ignition switch, first make sure you have power going from your battery to the starter, check at the starter for 12.5 volts then make sure starter has its ground, if that isnt it test the ignition cause thats probably what it is.

SOURCE: mitusbishi montero sport alternator replacements

It's preety hard as the dealer has normally factory trained tech who are able to make good diagnosis. I would probably look at the replaced alternators and see what went wrong with them then we can work out what to look for. What are the symptoms to make you replace the alternator?

2001 mitsubishi montero sport 4wd battery and brake lights are on.

I doubt it is the belt because if the belt is slipping you should hear it.
The alternator could be about to crash and not charging at lower speeds.
You would check alternator output to find out.
The battery and brake warning lights are on the same circuit.

The battery/ brake light was caused by the alternator. so make sure the battery is good and good connections. turn the headlights on and be sure they are bright.

I just bought a new alternater for my 200 montero sport and its not charging what can be the problem

I have a 2000 Montero Sport Limited and I am on my fourth alternator since Oct/08'. The last one was replaced Prior to the summer. I started having the feeling this one starting to go because my emergency brake light and battery indicators would come for no apparent reason. For me, this was a tell tale sign the alternator was not charging. However, this time was different from previous times because they were flickering on an off, especially when I accelerated to pass someone...leading me to believe there was a short somewhere.

Shortly thereafter, my "Service Engine soon" light came on and the performance started to degrade. After ignoring the dealership that my timing chain was off by one tooth...at an estimated $550...I took it back to the place that replaced the timing chain and they found a faulty wiring harness...at a tune of $130.

So far so good, I no longer have the symptoms I mentioned before and I often wonder if that harness was the root of all evil with regards to the four alternators I've gone through.

Hope this helps.
