My 2000 Cadillac Deville DHS is not starting.

It doesn't make a noise at all when I try. Also, on the instrument panel, the line under the PRNDL is not registering/displaying when I shift from gear to gear, making me think the car is not recognizing when it is in gear. Last week it was starting hit and miss, the AAA guy had me try to start it in P, then N, no dice. Then when I put it back in P it started right up. It has gotten worse since then and won't start at all. Battery voltage is showing 11.8 on the display. Had the alternator replaced recently. Any suggestions?

The transmission range switch could be bad , but ,without testing that is a guess . That's why the AAA guy had you try it in neutral an park . Do you know what a park netural safety switch is . The trans range switch is an input to the PCM/ECM engine computer ! The PCM/ECM shares this info to the instrument cluster over the class 2 serial data communication network , do you know about networks for the computer system on your vehicle. What happens when you turn the key to start your vehicle ?
Starting System Circuit Description
Moving the ignition switch to the CRANK position sends a 12 V signal to the PCM ignition crank request input. The PCM verifies that it has received a valid theft password from the vehicle's theft deterrent module and that the transmission is in the PARK or NEUTRAL position. The PCM then grounds the control circuit of the START 1 relay. When the START 1 relay is energized it completes the B+ voltage circuit to the starter solenoid S terminal.
With the line under the PRNDL not registering/displaying it sounds like a range sensor switch problem . This could be very challenging even to a professional Technician . At the dealer i would hook up the Tech 2 scan tool an see the range switch data at the PCM . Easy as pie . Someone without that tool have to do testing with a volt meter , find the connector at the transmission or PCM ,which ever is easiest to get to .Also checking DTC'S - diagnostic trouble codes at all modules on the vehicle . There are videos on youtube on testing range sensor switch , park neutral safety switch .

SOURCE: 2003 cadillac deville want start

check battery voltage, if battery voltage is ok, you may need to check fuses under hood on passengers side, if start fuse is ok, you may need to have your starter replaced

SOURCE: 92 cadillac deville that will not start.

It sounds like your batery is empty.
Or maybe your start rotor is a bit stuck.
if so give it a hit with a rubber hammer that can help loosen it.

2000 Cadillac DeVille sounds like prop-plane on acceleration

Could be the serpentine belt rubbing on something, but is probably a bearing problem in the belt idler pulley. However, it could be the power steering pump, AC compressor clutch or generator. As the water pump is at the opposite end of the engine, it's probably not that.

2000 Cadillac Deville No sign of transmission failure, turned off car went to start it again acted like battery was dead... then secound try started it. Only now it wont shift in to gear. the dot on the...

No the torque converter clutch solenoid won't have anything to do with it . More then likely it's the internal mode switch . This tell's the computer which gear is selected , then the PCM energizes the correct shift solenoid . The PCM will send this info to the instrument cluster over the class 2 serial data network . The instrument cluster has a microprocessor with logic programmed into it. More then likely has DTC'S - diagnostic trouble codes stored in one of the computers on the vehicle . Your best bet , take it to a qualified repair shop .

The internal mode switch (IMS) is a sliding contact electrical switch assembly that corresponds to the PRNDL position selected. Each of the PRNDL positions has a unique ground pattern on the four wires from the PCM. The IMS consists of two major components: The housing, which houses the tracks and makes up the stationary contacts. The insulator assembly makes up the moving contacts and is linked to the detent lever. The range detection is accomplished by securing the moving contacts of the IMS to the detent lever. When the driver selects a PRNDL position, the detent lever inside the transaxle rotates. This slides the IMS moving contacts which in return grounds the four wires in a unique pattern for each gear selection corresponding to the PRNDL position selected. The IMS is electrically connected by five wires (four of which the PCM supplies voltage to and one wire that is a common ground) to the transaxle pass through connector.
PRNDL Display
The IPC is equipped with a vacuum fluorescent (VF) PRNDL display. The IPC PRNDL information is received from PCM via class 2 serial data message.

Turn OFF the ignition.
Install a scan tool.
Start the engine.
Place the gear shifter in the following gears:
• PARK
• REVERSE
• NEUTRAL
• DRIVE
Observe the IMS parameter in the powertrain control module (PCM) data display.
Does the scan tool indicate that the IMS parameter is the same as the PRNDL display for all gears?

Ii have a 2000 Cadillac deville. My question is

Probably the best thing is a Glass shop. It sounds like a part called a window regulator is broke. Hopefully the cracking sound is just the plastic of the regulator and not electricity arcing.
In trying to do this yourself, the window has to be up and braced. Your Cadillac is a big car with big windows. Parts are a little heavier and harder to control.
You can call around for the price, tell them you "WANT TO KNOW THE COST OF REPLACING A WINDOW REGULATOR FOR YOUR CADILLAC DHS."
