91 jeep randomly wont start; also spits/sputters on acceleration

When accelerating my jeep recently started going through spitting, sputtering and bucking like it has no power and wants to die, rpms jump up and down like crazy as well, once driving it does fairly well unless you need to accelerate quickly. Also, it is randomly not starting. If I drive somewhere sometimes it will not start, at this time sometimes I will hear the power kick on in the fuel pump when I turn the key other times I will hear nothing, but the lights and dash still work. It has new plugs and wires, battery is newer and alternator, and the issues just started recently all together. Any good ideas as to what this could be?

when I turn the key the starter is not turning over at that time, I do however know that the starter is good

I've got a few ideas on this but one thing first... when you hear nothing when turning the key do you mean the starter is not turning the engine at that time either?

First (I"M starting to sound like a broken record on this) check the ground connections at both ends of the cable.(smaller body grounds as well) Make sure they are clean where they make contact with block and terminal post (not just on the outside.) Make sure hot wire is also clean and fastened correctly. Right now, we are trying to find out what it's not., Then, you can get to what it is.Often small stupid things can look like other larger problems.

Why does my gf's sportster **** and sputter apon acceleration?terribly.will only go about 30 mph and sounds bad doing it,Why?

Most likely, the carb is misadjusted or needs cleaning. This is a job for a licensed, respected Harley mechanic, as an amateur would most likely make it far worse. Should not be costly.

2004 grand cherokee 4.0l one day it will run fine the next day it runs rough rich and when i step on the gas the engine cuts out and spits and sputters

When the "spits and sputters" happen are you in low rpm? Can you "by-pass" the sputtering by accelerating? Has your gas mileage suffered?

1995 Jeep grand cherokee is missing while running. When it is under a heavy load (driving fast) it runs fine. When idleing and slow driving it spits and sputters.

I have the same problem on my 95 grand cherokee laredo. Sometimes it starts out fine and after about 10 miles it starts spitting and sputtering. Then after a while it seems to clean out and run fine again for a little while. Then other times it starts out spitting and sputtering at the begining. I changed the fuel filter and that was not it. It is a 4.0L 6cyc. Any Ideas?

Thanks,

Van Sputters And Loses All Power When I Accelerate

Internal combustion engines requires 3 things... fuel, air, and spark. You do not have enough of one or more of these. If the wires and plugs are old, change them.  Air filter, same thing.  Fuel filter can also clog up with stuff after awhile. When you take a look at the air filter check where the air comes from.  It is possible a little critter has built a home and blocked the air flow (rare, but, it has happened).

I have a 1991 jeep cherokee that recently started having random problems when accelerating, it's idle starts fluxuating and it spits and sputters and bucks, before it finally wants to go. Also it randomly...

First, check ignition system...cap, rotor, wires & coil. You may have some arcing going on there. If plugs are not recent, take a look at them as well...even if they are good, they can often tell you which cylinders are having a problem (wet with fuel, heavy deposits or just "different" from the rest) You may not hear the fuel pump come on all the time if the pressure in the line is not bleeding down. I would take a look at the relay first (power in & out). If fuel filter is more than 1yr old change that. (routine maintenance regardless of problems) Pressure test system if in doubt. Make sure idle air system is clean and do a quick test on crank sensor (a known problem area). likely something here will get you going.
