A3 1.8T Sport Quattro - Temperature Gauge intermittiant fault

My A3 1.8T Sport Quattro (52 reg) seems to have developed a fault with the temperature gauge on the dash board, its only seems to work now & then, so looks like an intermittiant fault, anyone any ideas on how to fix this problem?

Check out http://forums.fourtitude.com/zeromain there is some diy posts which will show you the location for your a3 outside temp sensor. I suggest that replacement is the best solution unless the connection is just corroded then a good contact cleaner should solve it.

ahh it seems as if there is no specific post for this topic.
there are 2 locations for the sensor that I know of. One is on the lower rad support right behind the front bumper cover or in front of the passenger side wheel well again behind the bumper cover.

its sounds like a grounding fault these are very difficult to locate but if u find an auto electrician with patients & guide him/her then you might get lucky!

1998 Audi a4 quattro 2,8 , is there a fuse for oil gage,my oil temperature allways at 350 deg.

No, there is no fuse.

If the temp is always showing max on the gauge there is a problem in the sensor circuit. This could mean the wiring or the temperature sensor itself.

Light to compass & temperature gauge

bad bulb or fuse, also check that you have a good ground behind that panel as the screws do sometimes come loose on SUV's (four wheeling, potholes, etc.)

Onboard Temperature gauge

Does your direction work ok? I have seen that if you reset the compass then this will correct the temp problem. If not you can try disconnecting the battery for approx a min and this should reboot the system. If this don't work let me know and I can try to how you fine the fault.

Cheers
