How do I install a water pump for Chevy Cav ?

Your Cav has Fuel Injection, therefore the electric fuel pump is inside the tank. uel injection units require much more pressure than a manual pump can deliver.

You will have to remove the inner door panel
to replace it

You may want a repair shop to it ,or you can

You will need possibly the new lock keyed the same
by a lock smith shop before you install it

If your not talking about, or do not know the problem ,
then when the door is opened up, you may see other
issues such as linkage broken

replace the engines oil pressure sending unit for the switch primes the pump with its circuit upon starting the engine

CHECK WATER PUMP WEEP HOLE IF ITS LEAKING.THEN PUMPS SHAFT BEARINGS FAILING MEANING YOU NEED A NEW WATER PUMP.IF WATER PUMP OKAY.I BE LOOKING AT THE THERMOSTAT AND RADIATOR PRESSURE CAP.

i have a 98 cav with the same problem, it's not really worth fixing if you know how much it is off by,

1 drain the coolant
2 there will be a pulley with 4 10mm bolts loosen them
3 remove the belt
4 now remove the 4 10mm bolts and remove the pulley
5 that's the water pump there are 5 bolts to remove (8mm)
6 after removing the bolts tap the pulley flange to remove the pump
7 clean the old gasket off the front cover
8 install the new pump and gasket and reassemble

if it is disc brakes all you have to do is remove the two bolts that go through the brake caliper. pull off the brake caliper. remove the brake bads. compress the piston in the caliper so the new pads will fit. then put in your new pads and reassemble.

Cnbarr, Although it is possible, it is not probable. Of course NEW only means "Nerver Even Worked". That being said, you might want to go to your local parts house and take a look at another water pump and see if the impeller is facing or looks the same. If it is, yours is probably OK.
