The heater is only blowing cold air on my BMW X5

The fan only blows cold air. I have replaced the hedgehog (FSR) as it did not blow at all at one point. I have also replaced the water heater valve, twice with used parts and not sure if they are working properly or if it is another problem. before I changed the valve it would get the tiniest bit of warmth come through eventually but only on one side of the car, now 2 valves later and I get nothing at all. Any ideas? The temperature gauge moves nicely up to the middle and stays there...

Andy, it sounds to me like your blend door between AC and Heater core is not functioning. Check that you are getting vacuum to the inside of the car thru the firewall from the plastic vacuum reservoir first. If you are, most likely would be at the dash lever/buttons not sending vacuum to said blend doors/flaps.

SOURCE: 2002 BMW 540I air/conditioner not blowing air at all.

It is the Final Stage Unit/Blower Motor Resistor - changed mine and the problem never came back. After two tows and drained batteries. Most mechanics don't seem to put this one togther - you have to demand it. Funny because it is a VERY COMMON problem in BMW.

SOURCE: Faulty Fan Heater - The main vents are just blowing out cold air.

Go to your idrive., climate the vent settings. you will see a person along with vent areas on the side.
If this persons color is blue it blows cold air so turn the dial for vent closest to that person until the
color changes red then hot air comes out on the vents for driver and passenger. Then let me know.

Bmw e46 316 2001,heater problem...heaters only blow out luke warm air.not sure whats causing the problem, could it be the thermostat, hedgehog resistor,or heater controll valve...advice please

Touch both heater hoses under hood when car is warmed up Kane, They should both be the same temp if your heater core is working good. The next thing would be to replace the thermostat.

No heat but blows cold air

Sound like 1 of a few things. The easiest is air in the cooling system. Bleed it and while car is idling and heat is on full blast. (another posibility is head gasket gone bad)

Heater blower not working

It sounds like your cabin air filter has stopped up common problem on these cars. You have to remove the glovebox to get to it. If this filter stops up, your fan will be running on high but hardly anything will come out of the vents.

Heater/blower died

When you find the fuse if it has blown also check the resistor to control the fan speed. I cant remember if the 1 series has a load resistor multi tap but it may have failed if you use 1 or 2 speed on the fan a lot, max will bypass the load resistor where as 1 will use maximum load and the thermal fuse might have blown. But replace it as caution. In the earlier models it had a block which was nicknamed the hedgehog, a load resistor buried under passenger foot-well up toward the centre, loads of spiky aluminum pegs which cold air blew over to cool it, always packing up in the earlier models £25 from scrap dealer cheap fix compared to the £££££££ BMW dealers rip off. Heater or air con would either not work or blow erratically. Hope this helps
