Hello erinbeusekom and thank you for asking your question here on fixya.com.
I have actually written a general information article that will walk you through the generall process of changing the fan belt on your 2005 Chevrolet Aveo. It will also point you to the resources you need for getting the diagrams of how the belt needs to go back on.
You need to find a belt for that particular engine, only without the A/C included. It may even be a different make of car.I had to do that on my 92 Buick with a 3.6 or 3.8(can't remember)but the only other vehicle with my engine without A/C was a Chevy smaller truck. If you haven't taken it off yet, make a diagram of how it is routed. When putting on the new one,it will be basically the same, just no A/C.Start from the bottom. If you already have the belt but just need the diagram,a national auto parts store will likely help you.Sometimes there is a sticker under the hood which shows how to route the belt. There are no free downloadable diagrams usually for service-related problems due to copyright laws.Whoever makes the books, such as Haynes or Chilton, has to pay some sort of fee to the makers to be able to print and sell the diagrams. If you need more help, just comment here and I will get an autolink to what you posted.Good luck,Greg
SOMETIMES THE DIAGRAM IS ON THE UNDERSIDE OF THE HOOD. OR ON THE WHEEL WELLS INSIDE THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT. CHECK UNDER THE HOOD ANYWHERE A STICKER COULD BE. IT MIGHT ALSO BE IN THE OWNERS MANUAL.
there should be a sticker on the fan housing on the top that will show you how the belt should go. If you dont have the sticker, go to a dealer, ask for the sticker, its only 3 bucks.
buy a new hood cable and have it ready for the repair. take a pair of pliers or vise-grips and grip the the cable for the hood release. As long as the cable is intact then pull on it and the hood will release. If you pull it and it does'nt release you may need someone to help and pull up on the hood while you pull on the cable.
