Abs light and traction control light is lit on my 2000 bmw 528i
The abs light is on and the traction control light also and the brake light was coming on intermittently and the speedo would work as long as the brake light was on. Cruise does not work either. I took all wheel sensors out and cleaned them but did not test with meter. I make the assumption that the left rear one is working since I was getting readings for speedo to function.
It plays havoc with the eng power and shifting. Don't have code reader tool. Test all wheel sensors? bad dsc? too many sensors on this car! I don't want to spend a fortune on this....any help is greatly appreciated. thanks in advance.
THE LIGHTS COMES ON WHEN ONE OR TWO WHEELS STARTS SPINING (WHEN TERES NO TRACTION) ITS STOPS THE CAR FROM SPINING SO ITSTOPS POWER GOING TO THAT WHEEL.
MAKE SURE YOR TYRES ARE INFLATED RIGHT OR YOUR TYRES ARE WEARING OUT
i suspect that their is a rusty damaged toothed sprocket on one of the wheels and as its a rear wheel drive vehicle then it could be a back one which is what i would check first

Yes it is possible that you have a bad wheel bearing which has the abs sensor in it. Hence the abs light on. Traction control utilizes the abs as inputs therefore traction control will come on.
Actually if it is the ABS Module it appears that you can send it out to be rebuilt and that should take care of your problem.
If you Google 2000 BMW 528i ABS Module you will find a wealth of information on getting this taken care of.
When the DSC Dynamic Stability Control light is ON your traction control is OFF. It will sometimes trigger the ABS light and the Rev Limiter it is an engine protection FAIL SAFE mode. Check your brake switch on the brake pedal, this sounds like the problem wen replaced it will reset the Rev limiter, if the ABS light comes Check the wheel sensors
Check to see if your brake pads and rotors are in good condition. Or if
you have replaced the pads yourself and have not reset the wheel
sensors this would cause the ABS Antilock Brake System light and the
ASC Automatic Stability Control light to stay on as the ASC uses the
ABS brakes with computer assistance to control the traction of the car if not fixed it can affect your rev limiter and slow performance
ABS and traction control really are only for panic stops and if your tires slip on wet surface's and yes each tire has a sensor on it. However if the brake light comes on this has nothing to do with the ABS or traction control lights. It's not a parking brake light. This light tells you, you have a serious brake problem.
car is sensing a problem with the stability control system (DSC) or the antilock brake system (ABS). usually an ABS problem will turn off the DSC, so DSC may be ok, just ABS needs a look at.
since its an '08 model, it should still be covered by the BMW warranty provided you live in the USA. take it in and have them fix it. not safe driving with both systems deactivated.
bad wheel bearing.will make noise and mess with sensors,or if had a brake job done caliper maybe loose to cause noise,if a drum which most are not you have parts rolling around in it,have seen it all.
traction control and abs use same sensor, you could have debris in caliper a little pebble between brake shoes and rotor will cause issues.
The traction control system is controlled through the Anti-lock brake system. The way it works is if one of your wheels starts spinning the ABS applys the brake to that wheel to transfer power to the oppsite wheel that is getting traction. If your ABS is bad then your Traction control won't work. To check it I would find a parking lot on a wet day. In an open space mash in the gas. if you hear the ABS system kick in and you don't squall the tires then your good. My guess is you won't. What I would be worried about is will my ABS work. When checking the traction control is a good time to check the ABS. Acclerate to around 15 mph, then mash the brake as your live depended on it. If you hear a motor run and feel a vibration or grind in the brake peddal, then it works.
