Trans shifts fine once you get the shifting position out of park and shifts from position to position fine
For
car not changing gears and not shifting out of park mode ,it can be shifter assembly issue, or it can also be
transmission issue. Get the shifter assembly inspected with ignition OFF. For

Your transmission fluid contain water,thats why the colour of the fluid changed to pink.And of such the clutch is slipping causing the engine to reve up before shifting - Check transmission cooler.

If the trans won't go out of part then the part lock-out is engaged, this is disengaged when the brake lights are activated, make sure the brake lights work, if they don't check the brake light switch (and the fuse) with a 12 volt test light to see if it works, until they work u are stuck.

we do not have an escort but we are having the same prblem with our expedition...it is the break sensor switch near the petal and only about $13 dollars to repace. Easy plug,unplug instal

Does the trans fluid have a burnt smell and is it brown or dark brown as opposed to a red wine color? If this is the case then you may have a service issue caused by a clogged trans filter which is what this sounds a great deal like and the sooner you get the truck to the dealer or your mechanic the better as the trans in these are not cheap to rebuild or replace.

Solenoid pack in trans. Position module,is just that. Wrong guess. What tran model do you have? You also have other sensors to consider but have to know the trans your working on and the computer and shift stratagy involved to solve this,even if your throwing parts at it.
A simple procedure to prevent being jammed in PARK on a grade:Do the brake light work? No brake lights and it won't shift out of park. Check your fuses and check for loose wires. Check your brake light switch. If that has failed, you won't be able to get out of park. The other one if the shift lock solenoid which is in the shifter assembly. The brake shift interlock switch prevents the car being shifted from park unless the brake pedal is depressed. Try to apply power/ground to the proper wires & see if it will activate.. If it does, then the problem is between the brake light switch & that solenoid. Could be the wires or the switch.Make sure the shifter cable is still held down in place at the shifter assembly & under the hood. It is the interlock switch that you hear/feel clicking.It is for the prior generation but may still apply.
