I believe the fuse for the stoplamps on your vehicle is in the fuse box located under the rear seat on the drivers side. The seat cushion must be removed to access this box. To do that, pull up on the front of the cushion to release the front hooks, then pull the cushion up and out towards the front. The fuse box should be under.
The fuse for the stoplamps is fuse 19, circled in red. Check this with the diagram that should be in the fuse box.
If you want to replace the fuse, use a fuse with the same amp rating. Your car has a second fuse box under the hood, in the engine compartment between the windshield washer fluid and the power steering fluid on the passenger side. It should be a black box similar to the one under the seat. In this box, there are five spare fuses you can use, as well as a fuse puller making it easier to remove fuses. The spare fuses are fuses 48-52, and the fuse puller is located in slot 53.
Take a spare fuse from under the hood that matches the amp rating of the brake fuse you are removing, and insert the new fuse into the fuse box under the seat.
To replace the cushion, slide the rear of the cushion up under the seatback so it hooks unto the wire loops on the back frame, then push backwards and down until the spring locks on both sides lock. Make sure none of the seat belts gets twisted into the cushion.
Check to make sure all systems, including the brake lights, are working properly.
SOURCE: Replace tail lights
Usually all you have to do is pull back the inside trunk liner behind the tail lights from inside the trunk, or there may be a plastic door that you open to access the tail lights. The wires going to the tail lights connect to a plug that you turn counter clockwise and pull out from the back of the tail light assembly. Once you have removed the connector replace the bulb. Some light bulbs just pull straight out of the connector, others you may have to push in and turn counter clockwise to remove.

If it's the same size cadillac engine and the transmission on it is listed for your car (get the transmission model and check if parts are listed for it for your car at the auto parts store) then it should fit. What you may really need to know is will the electical be compatible with your car. If you still have the old engine you can probably swap out any parts you need but getting everything sinchronized could end up being the real job.
SOURCE: 2001 Cadillac Seville SLS Car does not run other
Well, the first thing one should check is the transmission fluid level. Add Dexron ATF to the transmission until full when the vehicle is at normal operating temperature after 30 or 40 minutes of driving.
Secondly, if the car's transmission hasn't been flushed and filled in 30,000 mi. it's recommended that you do so as normal maintenance. This service typically costs about $100 or so.
If the car only runs forward but not reverse, a solenoid may be plugged up with clutch dust, or it's shorted out and needs to be replaced. However, tearing down a transmission on a 2001 Cadillac Seville is rather expensive, in the thousands of dollars.
One might consider getting a good used transmission that has a guarantee on it and have it installed, or have the one in it rebuilt.
Good luck on this repair.
