Replaced the tcm, input speed and output speed sensor. Check engine light no longer comes on. No diagnostic codes showing up for transmission, just the 1-2 battery disconnected then 5-5 end codes.
This tranny serviced regularly. Last fluid change showed a very clean pan with little dust held to the magnet and not metal chunks. Output speed sensor had a few small metallic slivers stuck to the magnet, but nothing chunky.
It will clear limp mode by switching ignition on and off about a dozed times. Because it shifts fine when not in limp, I am wondering what else could be kicking it into limp, and if it is worth investigating.

Change the output speed sensor as well and clear the vehicle codes either via a scanner or disconnecting the battery. Also make sure the transmission is at the proper fluid level.

You dont have to pull the tranny to fix this. Some so called "experts" on here shouldnt be giving advice if they dont know. The solenoid pack is located in the front the transmission just below the air filter and in front of the input speed sensor you just replaced. Unbolt the connector with a 10mm socket then the bolts connecting to the tranny. Replace with a new one 140 bux or close(get a new one). Installation is vice versa. Easy fix for any person who is mechanically inclined. Always get a second or third opinion when asking a thousand dollar question on any website. Some people think they know....but they dont.

Good Evening, I have a dumb question. have you cleared any current or history codes in the transmission? They will default with codes in the system. Also make note on what they are. If any and we can go from there, and yes tcm would be the next place to go but more info is best as far as codes and such.

1998 dodge caravan code P0700-Transmission Control System (Malfunction Indicator Lamp Request) How do I fix this?
SOURCE: the code p0720 show on
P0720 Outputspeed sensor circuit failure. The ECM uses this sensor in comparison to the input speed sensor and then command a gear change. This sensor has a very high failure rate. so did you replacei t with a new on and you still got this code, First the location its to the right of the manual shift lever.shaft. What get me is that metal chips that are on it.then there are the non magnetic chip that youll need to inspect for. Go the the transmission dipstick, engine running vehicle in park, safety brakes on,and wheels block. Check the fluid level are you at the correct level,? If not correct it. run the transfluid on your hand,do you see any non metalic chip.? It will be silverish or goldish in color. is it burnt (blackish). If you see any of these you have a transmission failure, and a new or rebuilt will be needed. But before you jump to that try to change the fluid,.Why? because of the metal chips in there. and retest the vehicle, put the proper fluid in it .Its AFT-4 that is what it calls for,and replace the filter. Here is one more area of concern do you hear a whinning noise as you drive the van? If you do then the transmission has failed and no fluid change will help.you may be looking for rebuilt or replacement.
